Afsheen Hayat, one of the founding members of the band ‘Kaya’, started singing when she was only 10 years old. Raised in a liberal environment, Hayat was encouraged by her actor mom to explore her talents. Afsheen along with Emad Rahman and Owen Dsouza formed ‘Kaya’ back in 2014. “Kaya means universe and that’s where the entire idea of our band/music originates from, making our music universal,” shares Hayat. Recently, the band has come up with their first album called ‘Raanvan’, released by EMI Pakistan. “We have also just finished background score for a movie called GENDER X which is directed by a German director Manolo TY ,” informs Hayat.These days the band is working on their second album. You! What is your genre of singing?
Our genre is sub-continental fusion which makes our music very contemporary and it appeals to all ages.
You! What is your band’s most memorable concert to-date?
We recently performed in Belgrade, Europe and the response that we got was amazing. It’s always a great feeling representing Pakistani music on an international level.
You! Have you sung solo songs too, if yes, then what’s your most popular song?
Have a long list of solo songs but the most popular one is ‘Alsai’.
You! Has your band released any music album so far?
Yes. ‘Raanvan’, released by the world-renowned record label EMI Pakistan. It consists of nine songs. Two videos are already on-air, one is called ‘Raanvan’ and the second one is called ‘Tera des’. It is available on all EMI Pakistan platforms such as apple music, iTunes, amazon etc
