independence day special
For Pakistanis, it’s the perfect time to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence with a weekday jam-packed with barbecues, day at the beach, fireworks, green and white decorations and all things joyous. After all, cool breeze from the seas and rays of hope in the recent times have taken them aback. Meanwhile, our favourite celebs are also not left behind. This week You! turns to a few stars to let us know about their expectations from future, how they are going to celebrate Independence Day and message to the fellow countrymen and women out there...
Faysal Qureshi
I hope that the promises made by the new government so far are fulfilled. The unity, strength and discipline that we lack as citizens of Pakistan should be focused upon. Moreover, education and human security (in Karachi specially) are the major concerns, so it is important to cater to it.
As far as my duties as a Pakistani is concerned, this year on Independence Day, a few friends and I have decided to grow some plants in the city. By now, we have planted around 6000 trees and are hoping to reach 10,000 in total. I am promoting this on my morning show as well. Guests who come are given seeds to plant trees in their homes or areas nearby.
For readers, I would like to say that people - especially youngsters - who are very active on social media, should be very keen on their opinions regarding women. Any female politician, player or a commoner, should be paid due respect no matter what political or social affiliations people have. We as a nation should show unity and faith rather than disrespecting each other.

As always, I expect our government to try and do its best for every Pakistani. As far as Independence Day celebration is concerned, I will be hosting my show with a 14th August theme. Then I intend to spend the rest of the day relaxing with my family and enjoying ourselves.
My message for the fellow countrymen is that Pakistan’s biggest strength is its incredibly resilient and talented population. Our worst nemesis is our failure to trust each other and our tendency to look at situations in the most negative manner. So we need to work together to make Pakistan great!!!

My expectations are very high from the government but at the same time, I am quite realistic as well. Since they are completely new, we should give them some leverage but I am confident about one thing that they will not be dishonest.
This 14th August, I will be flying back to Pakistan from Dubai. I am looking forward to celebrating my first Independence Day in ‘Naya Pakistan’. And yes of course, I will be planting trees which I have been very involved with. Let’s keep the country green and clean.
My message to all Pakistani brothers and sisters is that don’t think your participation in the betterment of this country doesn’t count. Each one of us can contribute to our society with a positive behaviour and attitude. Also, save water as we are on the verge of a disaster, and let your children know the importance of saving environment and careful usage of water.

This is the day everyone was waiting for. We needed a new face of Pakistan and we have got it.
Let’s hope the new government will deliver its 11 point agenda. His speech was phenomenal and now his inning has started. Let’s see how well he plays.
As for 14th August, I would celebrate by planting trees and thanking God for giving us Naya Pakistan. Moreover, my message is that it takes courage to be yourself. Let’s be brave and accept ourselves with all our flaws and work together towards rectifying these flaws.
Nadia Hussain
There are a lot of expectations given that so much had gone wrong before. So, in light of that, the biggest expectation is no corruption. We should be provided with better service; especially as taxpayers, our money should be utilised for all necessities, such as water.
On 14th August, I generally go out with my kids to watch the air show in Karachi, so we’ll do that. At my salon, we cut the cake and celebrate.
My message for people is to be responsible citizens and be conscious of your civic duties.
