The most confident of women are those who believe in every scrap of fabric they wear. You can tell the difference between a woman who wraps herself in beautiful silks and satins and she who wears...otherwise.” – Sarah MacLean, Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake.
All dresses speak of the attitude and taste of the woman who wears it. The colour, the cut, the shape and just about anything about the appearance of the dress speaks for itself. This effect is more visible in evening dresses. The tradition of wearing evening dresses has been around for centuries. Regardless of the era, evening dress is intricately linked to the fashion trends of the time, with unique characteristics that distinguishes it from everyday dress. They are most usually tailored from rich fabrics like silk, velvet, organza, satin or chiffon. As there are a number of events that only take place in the evening or at night. There are a number of angles to look into when selecting an evening dress. If you’re going to a formal evening party or dinner then opt for more formal fabrics like satin or silk. This week we have compiled few tips on how to wear evening dresses with oomph...
Keeping your skin tone in mind: A lot of women ignore the fact that your skin tone can make a huge difference upon how you will look in a particular coloured dress. Selecting the right colour tone of the dress as per your complexion can be very tricky. If you choose that wrong colour that does not go well with your complexion then this can make you look drab, ugly and pale.
Follow the fashion trends: You should always keep a check on the ruling fashion trends in order to know what is in fashion and what is not. There are some styles that can never go out of fashion like straight cuts and regular lengths. Since designer evening wear are expensive, it is always best to go with these styles as they will never go off the fashion street and you can wear them anytime when you want.
Evening makeup: Evening makeup can be bolder and more dramatic than makeup you wear during the day. You want to make sure you choose a sophisticated look, though. Creating a flawless face is as important as choosing the right outfit. Apply a medium coverage foundation and remember to blend in well. This would hide any spots and imperfect skin tone, giving you a flawless base.
For an evening look, add a blusher over your foundation with a make-up brush. A smoky eye with gray or charcoal shadow is also a good choice for evening makeup. Focus just on one facial feature, if you are going dramatic or bold on eyes, then keep rest of the makeup toned down by keeping it simple. Similarly, if you want bold lips, play down on cheeks and eyes. Invest in a good face primer which helps to create a smooth texture and also elongates the staying hour of your makeup.
The right accessories: As everyone knows, evening dresses require luxurious, stylish accessories. With the proper accessories to go with your formal evening ensemble, you can get any look that you want. Remember that your evening attire must never be overdone. Keep things elegant and simple at all times. Too many accessories can easily destroy an elegant look, so keep in mind that when it comes to formal evening wear, less is more.
Earrings: When it comes to accessorizing your formal evening dress think huge earrings with bold designs, like chandelier earrings. And, when opting for long earrings, you will not need any other kinds of jewellery. You simply need to pull back your hair and pin it into a chignon style to let your earrings truly stand out during the rest of the night.
Heels and clutches: You cannot complement your evening dress with a set of flats. If at all possible, put on high heel shoes. By changing over to heels - and especially a bold heel that matches another accessory - you instantly have a dressier, pulled together ensemble.
Similarly, don’t pick bags having a shoulder strap or perhaps a bag that is bulky. Obtain a sophisticated clutch bag, either having a wrist strap or with no straps.
Wraps and stoles: When you buy a sleeveless outfit, a wrap will be a great option for adding an elegance touch for your ensemble. A silk stole which fits or contrasts would complete clothing significantly. Wraps and stoles might be draped in your shoulders or simply using your elbows. Avoid a really lengthy wrap and select a shorter and wider one.
Don’t Forget Your ‘Do’: If you’re wearing your hair up, think about how you might be able to incorporate a look from your dress into an accessory. For instance, many formal dresses have gemstones that can be accented in hair barrettes, clips, and headbands as well.
Don’t forget the perfume: Nothing makes one feel more ready for a night out than a spritz or roll of that favourite ‘going out’ scent.
