This week, You! takes a look at some of the hottest hair & makeup trends as witnessed at the recently concluded Fashion Pakistan Week...

In Pakistan, usually all fashion weeks are an apt platform for girls to stay abreast of what’s in vogue. And while there is an onslaught of haute couture, there’s a treasure trove of hair and makeup trends that one gets to witness on the ramp.

Straight from the runways of Paris and London - it was all here at the recently concluded Fashion Pakistan Week Spring/Summer 2018 - what’s hot, what’s not! The beauty looks at the shows were endearing as well as stylish, where even the simple soft curls seemed like a work of modern art. This year too, Nabila’s NPRO and N-Gents teams did a fabulous job of styling the hair that looked brilliant with their soft and dewy makeup. The makeup maestro made heads turn left right and centre by dolling up the models who sashayed down the runway with an attitude to match.

From the get-go, the fashion week was nothing short of an exciting rollercoaster ride through the fashion boulevard - a complete tour of the current fashion trends in its entirety. Such shows also provide an apt platform for newbies to prove themselves to a large, discerning audience and make inroads in the local and international market.

The arrangements were immaculate and so was the simple yet classy, pristine white ramp. The show was a healthy mix of designers - seasoned and the rookies - Maheen Khan, Huma Adnan FnKAsia, Cheena Chhapra, Hasan Riaz, Yasmeen Jiwa, The Pink Tree Company, Amir Adnan, Farah Talib Aziz, Deepak Perwani, Saira Shakira, Rozina Munib, Boheme by Kanwal, Nauman Arfeen, Natasha Kamal and Ayesha Farook Hashwani were the participating designers.

NPRO showcased hair trends for spring/summer that could be taken from the catwalk to the salons. The ‘it’ look was vibrancy and shimmer with gentle insouciant waves and curls from the ramp to everyday life. The aim was to create looks that were easy to do, look flawless and add glamour to the entire ensemble. The idea was to achieve easy to do fuss free hair creating maximum impact.

Keeping the ala mode collections in mind, the makeup team worked with relaxed hair, effortless chic with zero makeup dewy skin and glossy kohled eyes. “We used pops of colours like classic reds and neons to complement the various designer collections,” shares Nabila while talking about the look she had opted for her models for the show. Moreover, the dominant look this year was the stylist’s signature look - zero makeup with a dewy and fresh feel to enhance the features.

Nothing over-the-top here. Considering that the collections crafted by some of the designers had liberal splashes of colours, Nabila chose to stick to her zero skin technique to ensure maximum effect. The look absolutely complemented the various designer collections making the models stand out looking young and vibrant. And the smokey, glossy lids were sheer genius.

Talking about the choice of colours and techniques used in makeup, Nabila explains, “Translucent skin, dark rimmed eyes with sheen, ombre lips, pop of colours on the lids, decorative eye makeup, and metallic Cupid bow was what we worked with.”

As for the hair, we saw an ultra feminine look created by the artist this time around. Soft, mild waves and curls gently caressing the models’ shoulders worked wonders making them look celestial and ethereal complemented by their dew-touched skin. However in some cases, the hair had been pulled back severely with a knot on the nape, or in a sleek ponytail. Romantic, soft hair with edgy makeup statement made for the perfect look this year.

Proving that with the right accoutrements, the hair can look like a work of art, Nabila too, opted for delicate accessories for the hair. Hair bands, gold hair pins and fresh flowers - a few adornments added a touch of glamour to the entire look.

The team especially loved the head band with tousled wavy hair, a look created for Maheen Khan’s Gulabo collection.

We fell in love with the summery lilac and tangerine lips - colours to opt for this season.

Interestingly, this year we saw fashion for all on the runway. It was all about being inclusive providing equal opportunity to everyone - even the impaired. The model brigade for Amir Adnan and Nauman Arfeen for instance, included the speech and hearing impaired who did an absolutely fabulous job. They were the stars of the two-day event - another welcoming step. To wrap up the fashion activities in two days making it a short and crisp affair rather than one that goes on and on. Another first was the participation of debutante designer, Cheena Chhapra, whose claim to fame is designing for the ‘real women’ - plus size ladies - rather than crafting size zero ensembles. And her choice of models for her segment was commendable. They were all well-endowed established ladies and leaders in their respective fields.

The fashion week proved to be an effective platform for both established and up-coming designers. We hope to see more fashionable and significant outcomes from them in the next installation too.
