food fest
People who love food and music have always known that this is a perfect match which inspires almost everyone. This is the reason why fine dining restaurants who want to provide their guests with exceptional dining experience, play soft music in the background or provide live performances. For a change, the concept of good food and music has been introduced as part of one of the biggest food festivals in Pakistan i.e. ‘Coca-Cola Food & Music Festival’ aka ‘Coke Fest 2018’, which was recently held at Beach Park, Karachi. This was the second time that the 3-day food and music festival was organised in the suburb that saw over 30,000 visitors to sample the city’s culinary delights and energetic music.
Such festivals often have a lot of expectations from the crowd in terms of trying something unique and different. However, the fair promised to offer all of the season’s freshest flavours ranging from a diversity of traditional desi to Continental, Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Thai), Turkish, Lebanese and Italian dishes and snacks. The selection of cuisines for the festival was based on the reviews and feedback of the extremely active members of the popular food portal ‘Foodies ‘R Us’, which is why we had a chance to experience some of the items that had been going viral on the internet. We tried the delicious gyro, a scrumptious and juicy donut burger, lasagne in a bread bowl, loaded fries and for those daring enough, one of the stalls offered a whole grilled crab. For desserts, we had another round of variety such as cheese cake on a stick, fruity popsicles, waffles, slushies and ice-creams! All of this indeed confirmed that the selection was based on popular choice and opinions of some of Pakistan’s most passionate and authentic foodies. Also, a diverse panel of culinary talents i.e. local chefs was offered who presented their special festival menus, discounts, and great meal deals during the carnival.
People explored over 70 leading and burgeoning traditional/contemporary restaurants and 30 caterers, home chefs at all food stalls at this nonstop ‘Party in the Park’.
Apart from the food stalls, several music artists and performers accompanied the crowd by performing some of their best songs. Strings, Fuzon, Zoe Viccaji, Ali Sethi, Asim Azhar, Quadrum, Sahir Ali Bagga and Wahaj Hanif were some of the artists who enthralled the audience with their amazing performances.
The festival saw a huge number of visitors from all corners of the city, giving families an opportunity to plan a perfect day out. Regarding the festival, CEO at Activemedia Saad M. Khan said; “This is the second season of the carnival and we have already come a long way. Expanding to five cities with hundreds of food stalls and the biggest artists on stage, the festival has broken all records”.
Events like this appear like a breath of fresh air for all the Karachiites in a hot weather. They provide an easy escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In the evening, the setting sun and the sea breeze made the event a perfect getaway. A combination of great food and thrilling musical performances, it was an ideal way to spend our weekend. This is the reason why such festivals gather much public attention and popularity. We are definitely looking forward to next year’s season with some more exciting food and music.
