We all have different parameters to measure beauty. For most of you, beauty is in the colour of the skin, for some beauty is flawlessness. Some think that it lies in the full lips and dove eyes. Rest find beauty in impeccable persona and the way women carry themselves in a certain attire. As for us, beauty is beyond materialism, it is skin deep. It lies in the warmth of someone’s smile, the belief in someone’s eyes, the intellect in one’s words and the austerity in their lifestyle. This is what the renowned Veet Academy was looking for in their 2017 Miss Veet Pakistan, to motivate millions of Pakistani girls in years to come.

The 12-week long reality show recently concluded with a grand finale in Karachi with a number of celebrities and media personnel, who graced the evening with their presence. The show had participants coming from diverse backgrounds - from a Zumba instructor to a physiotherapist - which assured the inclusivity of this competition.

After a star studded red carpet, the grand finale was opened by Azfar Rehman, who was the host of Miss Veet Pakistan this season as well. A video montage of the episodes, mostly shot amidst Thai landscapes were played by him followed by the introduction of celebrity judges, Aamina Sheikh, Adnan Siddiqui and Hareem Farooq along with brand ambassador Mahirah Khan, who came as the chief guest and fourth judge for the evening. The three judges spoke about this year’s contestants and their transformational journey throughout the show. The judges’ incredible energy helped stimulate the crowd and set the tone for the finale.

Furthermore, Mahirah Khan reiterated the importance of grooming young Pakistani girls and how the reality show has been empowering them. “In just two seasons, the franchise has served as a life-changing platform for the girls, transforming them from shy and hesitant to confident and daring individuals. Also, it has helped them become the best version of themselves as they underwent cutthroat competition that eventually worked in their favour,” stated Khan.

The finale also included performances by Sonya Hussayn and Ali Zafar. But it was Ali Zafar who stole the show with his live and powerful performance. He was energetic, charming and vivacious. He started his performance with a tribute to all beautiful women out there and entertained the audience by some of his hit singles including ‘Chal Dil Meray’.

The grand finale came to a close with Ali Zafar and Mahirah Khan, who joined on stage and spoke about the need to empower women, the need to celebrate their achievements and not denigrate them. In the end, Wasim Akram announced Hira Khan as the winner among the two other finalists, Nimra Khan and Nafia Sahar. Hira Khan became Miss Veet Pakistan 2017 and was crowned by Mahirah Khan. The winner of the show was mainly judged on the basis of how intelligently she phrased the answers and how effectively she communicated her thoughts through words.
