She worked with ace stylist Saima and few other beauticians before opening her own salon - ‘Humaa n Zara’ almost seven years ago. Currently she is the Official Make-up Artist and Educator of Mud Make-up designory USA and went to Dubai for a refresher course a few months ago. This is not all! Humaa has recently completed her Yoga Teacher Training course and plans to start her Yoga classes very soon. Read on to find out everything you need to look beautiful this season!
Bright and bold make-up
According to Humaa, winters are all about bold hues. Subdued foundation/base with moisturising elements is very much in vogue. ‘60s and ‘70s trends are back. And one trend that we have been witnessing for some time now is glitter and metallic shades. So, for the eyes, metallic or sparkly shades - such as red and blue - along with voluminous mascara is the look to go for. If you are an eyeliner person, you can opt for a very thin eyeliner. If you like experimenting with colours then blue, red and orange eyeliners are the ‘it’ thing this season. Coming to lip colours, bold hues like plum, deep red and maroon are all the rage. The overall make-up is very bright so of course the blush should be in soft pinks.
Shimmer & shine:
Winter is the perfect weather to flaunt lots of shimmer. The best highlighter for Asian skin is gold. Other shimmers having a pink or silver tinge to it do not complement our skin tone. Avoid using silver highlighters as they tend to make your skin look grey. Already, our women are obsessed with appearing ‘gora’ and for that they go for a foundation that is lighter or fairer than their complexion - so please avoid that as well.
Love is in the ‘hair’:
They say hair is the crowning glory and rightfully so. A good hair cut, colour or style can jazz up one’s persona. Sadly, our women are afraid to experiment and stay away from short hair lengths and prefer having long or medium length hair. So, layers is the way to go and the good thing is that layers are easy to style. Internationally, short bobs and pixie cuts are really in but over here women are just not that experimental. For the daring girls out there, definitely try pixie cuts. They look edgy yet cute.
Sadly, our women go for typical hair colours and opt for hues like chocolate brown or go for lowlights in various shades of browns, hazel and caramel. In my opinion ash blue, ash green is trending these days but only bold girls go for it.
Curls are in:
This year was the year of curly hair. If girls have curly hair, they just want to get them straightened. So, if you have curly hair then consider yourself lucky. The only thing you need to do is to tame your curls and frizz. Use sulphate-free shampoos, curl creams and leave in conditioners.
Beauty tips by Humaa:
The only tip which I would like to give is to eat healthy and include lots of green veggies in your diet. Limit your meat and white flour consumption. Actually, whatever you consume naturally affects your hair texture, skin and nails. If your skin is extremely dry than that means there is something wrong internally. Those who have high sugar levels in their blood can notice dry patches on their skin. When it comes to hair, the most common problem is dandruff. But if you experience excessive dandruff (which is visible) then that means it is fungus and you need to consult a dermatologist immediately.
“It is important that women invest in quality hair care and skin care products that is recommended by a professional beautician. Cheap products can harm your skin and hair, so be careful,” she concludes.
