A watch is a form of art. These little time-telling tools are simple in the way they look, but how complex they really are. Everything is so small and intricate. And yet it all works congruently and efficiently. A watch is more than something tangible and functional. It’s an embodiment of its wearer. It represents the wearer and their individual characteristics. It’s a portrayal of who you are and what you are. This is the reason why luxury brands offer timeless watches, which not only represent you but can also last a lifetime.

Keeping this in mind, recently Pakistan’s leading retailer of haute horlogerie timepieces, ‘Collectibles’ unveiled an extraordinary limited-edition watch named ‘Qaumi Tarana’ (National Anthem). The watch has been co-created with the world’s most respected makers of marine and pocket chronometers, Ulysse Nardin to mark Pakistan’s 70th anniversary. Incorporating a miniature music box, the watch plays our National Anthem, at the push of a button.

Named Ulysse Nardin Anthem, the watch is conceived by Mr Rameez Sattar (owner of Collectibles) and developed by Ulysse Nardin, which is one of the very few companies to have mastered the extremely intricate and challenging art of musical horology. This is the first musical watch ever to incorporate the National Anthem of a country and, to create it; the craftsmen of Ulysse Nardin had to spend more than a year on development and prototyping. Produced in a limited edition of seven pieces, the watch has a distinctive aesthetic, with indexes, counters and other details in green, the national colour of Pakistan. These details are complemented by green stitching on the hand-made leather strap and the case-back is engraved with ‘1947-2017’, along with Pakistan’s Flag.

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Ulysse Nardin, flew in from Switzerland especially for the unveiling, which took place during an exclusive event in Karachi. It was hosted by Rameez Sattar and attended by 150 of Pakistan’s leading business and social personalities. At the event, Mr Sattar said, “For Ulysse Nardin to have taken up the challenge of working with Collectibles to create this exceptional timepiece in tribute to our nation is indeed a pleasure and a privilege.” Ayaz Anis, Rabab Masood, Nadya Mistry, Beenish Pervez, Adnan Pardesy, Syra and Shahroz Sabzwari were among the few celebrities from showbiz who attended this prestigious event. Live performances by Kashmir - The band and Sanwal Esakhelvi made the evening more enjoyable. Kudos to the thinkers for coming up with intelligent innovations like this!
