Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer among all Asian countries. Low level of female literacy, cultural beliefs, taboos and myths and misconceptions hinder early diagnosis and treatment. With early detection, the chance of curing breast cancer is over 90%. This is the message we need to spread.

The Pink Ribbon Campaign focuses on spreading awareness and establishing Pakistan's first dedicated Breast Cancer hospital. The hospital project cost is estimated at Rs500 million of which over Rs 50 million has already been raised. A plot has been acquired in Lahore and construction has begun.

In this regard 'Friends of Pink Ribbon Karachi Chapter' was launched in Karachi in March 2017 in a bid to spread awareness and to generate raise funds for the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer hospital in Lahore. Since its inception, Karachi Chapter has organised a fundraising tea, participated in festivals, seminars and television shows to spread awareness.

Recently, Friends of Pink Ribbon Karachi chapter presents a Theatre Evening featuring Bee Gul's 'Marnay Say Pehlay Jannat', an Urdu play, produced and directed by Khalid Ahmad, in aid of the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer hospital in Lahore to serve all of Pakistan. The play revolves around an ailing old man (Khalid Ahmed) who is a loner and his only company is his maid (Bakhtawar Mazhar). The short play featured only two characters. The dialogues were crispy and made the audience laugh on and off during the play.

The committee worked relentlessly to organise this Fundraising Red Carpet event, with Neil and Jana's live band, a Chinese dinner, a silent auction and gifts and prizes for all! The event featured a short presentation by CEO Mr Omer Aftab and Mehnaz Karamat. (Chairperson Friends of Pink Ribbon Karachi Chapter)

The event, that was basically a fund raiser, was attended by distinguished personalities from the corporate and media sector. A large number of businessmen and philanthropists were also in attendance who generously donated for the noble cause. Numerous women entrepreneurs especially fashion designers also came forward to donate top of the line formals for a Silent Auction, in support of the Breast Cancer hospital. It's heartening to note that the entire proceeds of the evening will go to the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Hospital Pakistan. Kudos to Friends of Pink Ribbon Karachi Chapter who managed to arrange such a beautiful evening for a worthy cause!
