Musicals have been tap dancing their way into moviegoers’ hearts since the invention of cinema sound itself. The musical never completely died as a movie genre in Hollywood, but it did lay dormant for a while throughout the 1980s and ’90s. But quite recently, musical movies have made their way to the Pakistani Film Industry as well.
With so many movies releasing this year, we have observed that most of them have some comic relief or convey a serious message. However, there are a few genres that the Pakistani filmmakers have not tried their hands on. And it felt like a breath of fresh air when we saw the trailer of upcoming movie, ‘Rangreza’, by debutant director Aamir Mohiuddin. The musical romance stars Gohar Rasheed, Urwa Hocane, Bilal Ashraf and Saleem Miraj in the main lead along with Ghana Ali and Alyzeh Gabol. As far as the music of ‘Rangreza’ is concerned, Abida Parveen, Asrar Shah and Qurram Hussain of ‘Josh’ have teamed up for the project.
The movie focuses on several issues that are prevalent in our society along with all the ingredients that one expects in a commercial film. The movie is all about the emotions of love, joy, anger and sadness. According to Gohar Rasheed, “It is a family entertainer, that talks about family values in a very sub textual way. It is also reflective of how our society functions but in a very humorous way.”
Coming to the trailer launch! The event, organised by Tehmina Khaled of Take II, was a star studded affair where media persons and many celebrities including Humayun Saeed, Javed Shaikh, Armeena Khan, Nadia Hussain, Ayesha Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi were in attendance.
At the occasion, Aamir Mohiuddin, said, “The movie has all the elements and emotions in it, which has been depicted very naturally.”
The evening featured musical performances by Asrar Shah, J.Ali and Hamza Akram qawwal. However, Shah and the qawwals stole the show with their mesmerizing performances. Then it was time for the trailer launch, which was well received by the audience.
The movie is all set to hit the cinemas on December 21, 2017. Well, we will have to wait and watch what the film has in store for us.
