beauty trends
This week You! takes a look at some of the hottest trends in hair and makeup as witnessed on the ramp of Fashion Pakistan Week ’17, concluded recently in Karachi...
Each fashion week heralds the beginning of a new season. And a new season means new beauty trends. Fashion weeks are an apt way of staying up-to-date about the latest fashion, hair and makeup trends. Fashion weeks are your go-to for all fashion fixes. This time too, Fashion Pakistan Week Winter/Festive 2017 was a pretty affair. Washes of rainbow colours, skin glowy and touched with glitter and gorgeousness all around was order of the day.
While Nabila’s able team at N-PRO had worked up soft looks, the stand-out looks were brighter and bolder than ever. Scarlet lips, kohl smudged eyes, rouged cheeks are trends that are to lookout for. The makeup team did a fabulous job of coiffuring the hair which proved to be a fun factor at FPW ’17. The audience was treated to captivating hair dos showcasing varying styles and cuts.
The designer line-up:
This time around there was a twist. It was kick-started by Shamaeel Ansari’s solo show followed by a three-day fashion show. The designers that showed their collections at FPW included Misha Lakhani, Aamna Aqeel, Erum Khan, Obaid Sheikh, Saira Rizwan, Suffuse X Jaipur & Co, Sanam Chaudhri, Wardah Saleem, Emraan Rajput, Sadaf Malatere, HEM, Deepak Perwani, Tena Durrani, Nauman Arfeen, Saira Shakira, Adnan Pardesy, Maheen Khan and Sana Safinaz.
Stars of the fashion week were however Shamaeel Ansari, Maheen Khan, Sana Safinaz, Wardha Saleem and Sadaf Malatere while Adnan Pardesi too wowed the audience with his beautiful collection.
The oh-so-wow looks:
Regarding the theme of the fashion show, stylist Nabila says, “There is never a theme for any fashion week. We try to collaborate with the designers to weave their vision into what trends we are promoting that particular season in order to come up with their individual look. The theme invariably looks eclectic due to this approach.”
Traditionally yours Adnan Pardesi stayed true to tradition and this time too came up with an eye-catching collection ‘Ravayat’. Lehenga cholis and flowing palazzos speckled with netted bead on the hems along with heavily worked shirts made for a brilliant collection. While the girls were all dolled up, men styling was the classic old school groomed look. For Adnan’s segment, Nabila worked up a sleek look for the hair. Neatly pulled back at the nape, the ponytail was divided into casual plaits which dramatically dropped down the shoulders; while dark lips and peachy skin completed the look. |
The rosy way For Sana Safinaz, Nabila opted for slick, sleek and smoothed to the scalp hair-do with soft glowy make-up. The lip colour was a mix of nude, pink, orange and red. This look absolutely complemented Sana Safinaz’ ‘Roses & Rue’. The duo staged a comeback with this collection mesmerising all with their fashion sensibilities. Swarovski crystals, gems, floral appliques and feathers adorned their exquisite gowns and shirts. These had been paired with pants and voluminous layered skirts. A masterpiece for sure. |
Dancing to the dholak beats Day 2’s highlight was none other than Wardha Saleem’s ‘Dholak’ collection for the traditional mehndi bride. The entire range was a symphony of vibrant colours, intricate techniques and details. She perfectly blended the bright hues of fuchsia, radiant oranges, vibrant greens, lustrous blue, passionate plums and rich reds in her own signature style. Beautiful cholis and shimmery ghagras with bird embroideries, hints of truck art, patterned bell bottoms celebrated joy and new beginnings. With the music of the dholak and thalis with flowers and candles, Wardah’s collection surely replicated the mehndi vibes. The makeup and hair for this segment was kept subtle with brown smokey eyes and nude lips. While the hair was tied in traditional buns with matha pattis and teekas. |
Bright and beautiful Doyenne Maheen Khan once again proved that experience definitely gives you an edge. ‘The Lion and the Muse’ was a beautiful collection of jewel speckled coats with flowy pants, sexy halter tops and striped shirts. Maheen’s sari shararas were an awe-inspiring creation while her capes and palazzo’s added pizzaz to the look. Nabila had worked up top messy buns, with sexy socket liners and bright lips for Maheen’s segment; while the skin was fresh and dewy once again. |
The flirty range Sleek and shiny wisps looked brilliant on Sadaf Malaterre ensembles. A fun ‘n’ flirty collection, it was specifically designed for the fashion forward. Models sashayed down the runway in sexy dresses, jazzy shirts and capes teamed with pants. Sadaf Malaterre presented a daring collection emphasizing women empowerment through bold colours, tassels and frills, strong cuts and unique silhouettes as part of innovatively crafted jumpsuits and dresses. |
Go green and blue Nabila and her team thoroughly enjoyed working with Shamaeel. “Personally I loved the look created for Shamaeel’s collection. Simply because just being one show that day we could work for hours on very intricate braided hair offset with blue or green eyebrows to keep it quirky. I feel our strength being hair makes all the difference,” explains Nabila. And the braided hair and eyes awash with colour did wonders for Shamaeel’s striking Blue Tulip line. Having previously designed regal collections inspired by the Mughal era Shamaeel this time looked towards Turkish art and culture for inspiration. “Taking this inspiration forward, I turned some of their crafts into intricately designed modern trends involving the sartorial nature of the grapevines in Iznik art, the visual philosophy of the Ottomans and large scale floral and seagulls of the Bosphorus. My aim was to create an ambiance that depicted Turkey in every way possible, from my many outfits to the decor of the event, everyone loved the vibe and the collection which makes me truly happy,” says Shamaeel. |
Bold brows “The eyebrows were bushy and unkempt. We worked with creamy finishes to enhance the eyes while the socket liner defined them without making them look too ethnic. Lips were different for various designers ranging from nudes, to deep to smoked to ombre and metallics,” shares the maestro. |
Artistic hair-play Nabila’s team created hairstyles that complemented all the collections. “This time the hair was a fantastic balance between intricate and effortless. It was sleek and shiny to wispy and messy. We worked with top messy buns, vintage waves, Gatsby fringes and braided bands to name a few,” states Nabila. |
Fresh and dewy Strobing is the new contouring or you simply refer to it as highlighting. Extra highlighting makes the skin appear dewy, shimmery and more youthful. It adds glow to the skin. And that is the look that we saw on the runway for this edition of FPW ’17. “For this FPW we worked with flawless dewy skin created by zero makeup. We also used the zero contour/strobing palattes (soon to be launched), to enhance the dimension and hint of shimmer for stage,” informs Nabila. |
