Hadiqa Kiani is our favourite female artist. Kiani has been inclined towards music since a very young age. “Music was a subject in my school in Rawalpindi. I had been actively participating in the music competitions and used to win prizes for my school. I was also a member of the children Arts workshop where they used to teach music,” says Kiani. She started her career from PTV and made her mark in no time.
Kiani was the first woman in Pakistan to be appointed as Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations in 2010. The only Pakistani singer who has been singing in various languages; including all regional languages of Pakistan and international languages such as French as well. With her recent album ‘Wajd’, Kiani aims to revive each region’s core musical heritage. ‘Wajd’ features 6 chapters and each chapter is in a different language such as; Saraiki, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi and Braj Bhahsha. What is your specialized field of singing?
My specialized field is soulful music. Anything that I touch in music has to come from my heart. I believe music only appeals to people when it comes from soul.
What is your most memorable concert to-date?
Can’t specify one concert; wherever the audience is connected with my music it goes well and gives a great high.
How was your Coke studio experience?
I did Coke Studio Season one in 2012, it was a fine experience. It’s a great platform for singers and I hope we have more platforms like that.
Your claim to fame songs:
Claim to fame songs are ‘Mann Di Mauj’, ‘Boohey Barian’ and ‘Janan’.
What do you usually wear in daily life?
I usually wear jeans and t - shirt, mostly casual.
Your favourite international labels:
There is no favourite label, wherever I like something I buy it. I don’t really care about the brand name to be honest!
Your favourite international music celebrity:
Don’t have one.
Your favourite Pakistani singer:
My all-time favorite is and will always be Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab.
Your favourite music composer:
A. R Rahman.
How do you deal with your male fans?
My male fans have always been very respectful towards me and I deal with them exactly the same way, my fans are my true strength.
Your most irritating habit:
Restless by nature, want to do it all at one time. So it not just irritates me but my brother mostly gets irritated by it.

Vapid and self-absorbed, there is just so much going on in the world; you can’t only be concerned about your next designer bag.

I always feel happy in the company of my immediate family.

Afraid of Pakistan’s instability.

I am not attached with material goods.

‘Cast Away’ and ‘3 Idiots’.
Are you a shopaholic?
I love to shop but I believe in reasonable shopping. I don’t get carried away by the glitz & gloss of brands.
What bores you the most?
Getting bored is a state of mind, sometimes there’s no reason behind getting bored.

I prefer to stay quiet and sleep.

I am crazy about fitness and health.
Among your friends you are known as...
Among friends I am known as someone who follows her heart and someone who can’t be fake.
Are you a social person or a loner?
Well neither a social person nor a loner. I fall in between.
How do you like to spend your Sundays?
I don’t have an office job; I work according to my own schedule. I have a salon too! So Sundays are the same for me as any other day. I do take my time out when I want to.
In your childhood were you a bright student?
Yes, I must claim that I was a good student.
Who was your favourite rock/jazz star when you were growing up or in your teens?
Pink Floyd and Deaf Leppard.
Your favourite hangout:
Coffee shops mostly with my son and niece or with friends.
Something very few people know about you as a person....
I think what they don’t know is that I love to cook , love to do makeup and also teach my salon girls different techniques of makeup, do swimming and yoga , love to read books, sometimes write my thoughts in my diary and spend most of the time with my family.
Your ultimate desire...
My ultimate desire is to keep doing soulful music and to continue representing Pakistan in the best way I can!
