Ditch the heavy makeup and instead opt for a light summery makeup look that complements your lawn attire...
Lawn - we all love the sheer fabric which is so light and comfy. In the summer time everyone wants to wear cool lawn prints. You want to look trendy by sporting chic lawn prints. And certainly, with a variety of fabulous lawn prints available in the market, you have multiple options to catch your fancy - be it floral prints, geometric patterns, stripes or simply classic. Lawn which was once considered a staple dress has now become the darling of fashionistas. No wonder we all want to flaunt our favourite designer 'lawn ka jora'. But wait, pause and think - does summer allow you to wear heavy makeup with your lawn outfit? Of course, not. Certainly you don't want to spoil your look by wearing smudged mascara, streaky foundation or super sticky lipstick. So what you can do is to simply follow our summer makeup tips to keep your makeup fresh and pretty, even when the weather is working against you. Here you go!
1. Shield your skin: A face full of foundation looks and feels uncomfortable in the heat. Use a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, it keeps your complexion hydrated and protected from the sun in just one step.
2. Apply concealer sparingly: Touch up trouble spots - blemishes or dark circles - with a tiny dab of concealer. Blend well with a small synthetic brush. Less is more when the temperature is high.
3. Shine strategically: To keep minimal summer makeup glowing, it is suggested to add light-catching highlights. Blend a touch of liquid highlighter on the tops of the cheekbones and brow bones and down the bridge of the nose. That takes a little practice - don't go all the way to the tip of the nose, or it will look oily.
4. Bronze believably: For a natural and glowy look, apply a light shimmery bronzer with peach or pink undertones just to the high points of your face, where the sun naturally hits you: forehead, cheekbones, chin, and nose. Powder bronzers are the easiest to apply. You can also sweep a little bronzer onto your neck and earlobes, especially if you have short hair or are wearing a ponytail.
5. Pick waterproof mascara: Waterproof mascara is a no-brainer in the summer. It can withstand the office, the gym, the pool, and the bar without smudging. Waterproof eyeliners and mascaras stay in place on steamy days. To prevent the makeup from running down your cheeks, be sure to swipe and line only the top lashes and eyelids - not the bottom ones.
6. Brighten your eyes: It's time to lighten up. Really! Smudge deep copper eye shadow all over your lids for a summery take on smokey eyes. Or use shimmery golden pink for a softer look: Pick a long-wearing cream eye shadow in a glimmering shade to brighten and define your eyes (as when sweat and powders mix, the result isn't pretty). Sheer cream shadows tend to cake less in hot weather (plus, they glisten in the sun).
7. Ditch the powder blush: Blush adds a hint of colour and balances any look. But if you're still using the same powdery formula, think again as your blush might be getting cake-y faster especially in summers. Stains are great for longevity in hot weather. Use a gel or blush stain, then blend a touch of cream blush on top of it. Dust a light, invisible setting powder overtop. Just be sure not to get too heavy-handed; you want to lock your look, not mattify it. For a pretty flush on fair skin, pick light pink or peach hues. Apricot or rose flatters olive tones, and plum or coral looks lovely on dark complexions.
8. Swap out thick lipsticks: Switch out full-coverage lipsticks (save those heavier products for fall) for a lip gloss in a fun bright shade. Try sweet pink or peach shades for a traditional summery look, or go bold with tangerine and grape colours for something more daring.
9. Keep prep items in your purse: Never look oily in a photo again by staying prepared with purse-size products that are so perfect for travelling. Carrying blotting papers is a great way to whisk away the sweat and oil without piling on more product.
10. Keep things light: If you want to keep your makeup from creasing and caking, say it with us: Less is more. Makeup likes to move around when it's hot, so the best way to avoid that is to wear less of it.
