you & me

Acting comes naturally to Adil Murad. Born to a star father Waheed Murad (late), Adil has been a part of glitz and glamour since he was a child. He worked in two films as a child star and one in his teens. However, he professionally started acting in 2005. He was first introduced to television by Sania Saeed and Shahid Shafaat. “I was lucky to play the lead opposite Sania Saeed in my first T.V play,” says Adil. Gradually he was able to impress the audience by his acting skills. His T.V show ‘Lakhon ka Such’ was an instant hit that made him a household name in no time.Adil Murad

These days Adil is busy shooting for Syed Noor’s new movie ‘Cheyn Aye Na’ which is going to be realeased in July this year. He is also appearing in a soap called ‘Baby’ at a private channel. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in Finance from University of Houston, Adil Murad is a right combination of talent and brains. Let’s take a look at his likes & dislikes...

  • How many dramas/serials/ have you done so far?

I think 50 plus.

What are your most memorable shows or drama serials to-date?

‑‘Suno Na’, my first play. ‘Buri Aurat’, directed by the legendary Javed Fazil (late), and ‘Lakhon ka such’, a show which I hosted.

  •  Is acting your passion or just a time pass? Or a way of making money?

‑Acting has always been a passion. It’s a good thing that now you can also make some money out of it.

  •   You are working in Syed Noor’s film, how has been the experience so far?

‑The experience so far has been wonderful.  Syed Noor is a veteran director with 55 films under his belt. I have amazing co-stars to work with - Sehrish, (granddaughter of Sabiha Khanum and Santosh Kumar) and Shehroz Subzwari.

  •    Are you excited about your movie venture?

‑More nervous than excited. As an actor, a film actually tests your mettle. Lately, more Pakistani films have been flops than hits so I have my fingers crossed.

  •  Your favourite international labels:

‑Hugo Boss, Giorgio Armani, and Zara.

  •  Your favourite photographer:

‑The neighbourhood photographer who takes my passport pictures :)

  • What do you usually wear in daily life?

‑I am extremely casual in my daily life. You’ll mostly find me in my favourite jeans and a polo shirt.

  •  What is one product you cannot do without?

Deodorant.

  •  When stepping out, do you wear sun screen cream?

‑Never! So far I’ve been taking my chances with the sun :)

  •   One thing you like best about yourself

I’m honest.

  •  Which designer’s clothes you would always love to wear?

‑I love a style of jeans by Diesel. I own 5 pairs of the same.

  •  You like girls who are....

‑Witty and have a sense of humor.

  •  Your favourite co-star:

‑Would probably be Saba Qamar, even though I haven’t worked with her...

  •  Your most irritating habit...

‑I procrastinate and worry too much...

  •  You don’t like people who are...

Fake and pretentious.

  •   You always feel happy in the company of ...

‑A beautiful woman and I am always happy and comfortable with my childhood buddies with whom I can be myself all the time.

  •  You are afraid of...

‑The future and what it holds. (I told you above that I have an irritating habit of worrying too much).

  •   Happiness is...Adil Murad

‑‑When my five-year-old crawls up on me and puts his head on my shoulder to sleep.

  •   Your most valuable possession...

‑My father’s watch and ring that have been passed on to me...priceless!

  •  What’s your favourite restaurant?

‑I love steaks and lamb... so Jason’s Steakhouse it is! On the other hand, ‘Dua’ restaurant or ‘Cafe Laziz’ on Burns Road would be just as good.

  •   Your all time favourite movies:

‑The ‘Thomas Crown Affair’, ‘Last of the Mohicans’, “The Godfather trilogy’.

  •  Are you shopaholic?

‑Not really. I’m not very fussy about shopping. I usually just go out to buy what I need rather than spending hours at the mall.

  •    What bores you the most?

‑Lately, award ceremonies and fashion events.

  • When feeling low you prefer:

‑To be alone...solitude and self reflection helps me get back up.

  •   You are crazy about...

Guns.

  •   Are you a social person or a loner?

‑Not very social... a borderline loner.

  •   How do you like to spend your Sundays?

‑I love to spend my Sundays at the shooting range.

  •   What’s your favourite breakfast food?

Waffles.

  •   Your fitness regimen...

‑It is 3-4 days at the gym with a mix of cardio/weights.

  •   Your favourite exercise...

‑The bench-press - being the simplest.

  •   The best gift you have ever received?

‑My two boys and my first expensive watch, a Mont Blanc gifted by my brother-in-law.

  •   The best thing that’s been said about you?

‑“Adil could never say that, he is an honourable man” and of course, “He’s like his father.”

  •  The biggest misconception about you...

‑Is that I am rude...I am really not. I am just an introvert personality so it takes me longer to open up to new people.

  •   What do you like most about your job?

‑Is that I can choose to be whoever I want...

  •   Your idea of romance?

‑A rare moment stolen right from under the eyes of the world.

  •  What would be your advice to someone who wants to become an actor?

‑Hmm... that’s a tough one. There should actually be a manual for new actors which teaches them etiquettes, professionalism, and a lot more. If someone really wants to be an actor then they should pursue it with passion and be true to their work. And always remember ‘Fame’ is a dangerous thing! Easily attained, hard to maintain. Be ready for all the highs and lows.

  • If you weren’t doing what you are doing today...

‑I would probably be working a 9-5 schedule in an office somewhere in the US!
