This week You! peeks into renowned designer HSY’s Mansion that has fashionistas oohing and aahing over this elaborate space...
This debonair designer is synonymous with fashion and style. An integral part of the fashion circuit, we have seen Hassan Sheharyar Yasin aka Sheru don many a cap - designer, choreographer, television personality. Whatever he does, he does it with panache. The city of lights was recently abuzz with excitement as Sheru opened the doors of his HSY Mansion.
Regarding the idea behind setting up the Mansion in Karachi, Hassan states, “I had been thinking of expanding for quite some time now and Karachi was always going to be first. But I wanted my presence to be more than just business. I wanted to make it my second home that is when I decided to set up the mansion.”
Hence, it is not just a showroom but also serves as Sheru’s living quarters. “Since I travel a lot and am constantly jetting between Karachi and Lahore, it’s only sensible to have a space that works as both my showroom and home so I ensured I had some personal living space at the mansion as well. The set up is very similar to my home in Lahore in order to maintain the familiarity and intimacy,” he apprises.
When Sheru first saw the place it was in a dilapidated condition. But he knew this was exactly what he had been looking for and wanted to have the place reconstructed retaining its antiquity.
“The rich history and traditional feel that the mansion exudes is the reason why I chose this place. It was built in 1909 by a Parsi woman and her Hindu husband and has a very captivating energy that really attracted me and I wanted to retain it. I had very little work done on the mansion since I liked it the way it was and I didn’t want to take away the old world charm it has. So, the vintage doors and windows, the quaint galleries, and flooring all have been kept as they were, in their original state,” shares the designer.
As you walk through the gates a big driveway takes you towards the imposing main door. The statuesque mansion looks down on you emanating warmth and energy. The entire space is done in white, while the furniture is mostly beige, gold, black and brown, giving an ethereal and royal feel. Not to forget the woodworks in the mansion that give a rustic touch.
Upon entering the chandeliered foyer you stop to think a minute which room to enter first - the one to the left or right. Both offer you a peak of fineries, resplendent with gems and stones, displayed on mannequins. There are quite a few rooms in the mansion, all dedicated to the brand HSY. “There is a bridal room, and a sherwani room for the bride and groom. There is a formal room for special occasions and a red room dedicated to styling celebrities for red carpets and other events,” elaborates Sheru.
What’s interesting is the fact that all these rooms have an outer door that allows clients (celebrities/socialites) direct access of that particular space without being seen by anyone else. The furniture too has been chosen by Sheru himself with utmost care. “I have tried to keep the set up as comfortable as possible for the clients. I want them to feel at home. I have added long seats and loungers so they can sit and relax when they are here.”
For clients from out of town there is also provision for staying over while they finalise all the nitty-gritties. Where else can one get such personalised attention and that too all confidential! Sheru makes sure his clients’ stay is as comfortable as possible as he believes in a complete experience.
The well tended lawns lead up to a cosy alcove connected to the house which has a few sofas and chairs strewn around making for an ideal spot for evening tea. The ivy covered mansion, bathed in the evening sunlight makes for a spellbinding view. So why not set out on the best journey of your life right at the HSY Mansion!
