Formal ensembles are definitely a must have when it comes to any woman’s wardrobe. They can offer you a glamorous look that is needed when attending special evening events which are generally defined by low music, intimate mingling, slow dancing and lively chatting. Read on to find out more on how to dress up for a formal night out...

Shades of festivity

The magic of fabric:

Yes, that is the most tricky bit. The first thing you want to do is pick out a fabric that flatters your body type and has a great fall to it. And when we talk about any formal occasion, the best fabric to choose is either chiffon or pure silk. The natural fall of chiffon looks stunning on women of all shapes and sizes. However, for women on the heavier side, it is advised to avoid silks as it can make your bulges prominent. Georgettes are also a good option but nothing beats chiffon. Other materials that are very in these days are organza and cotton net.

Colour me pretty:

After you have decided on the fabric, it is time to choose the colour that suits your personality and gives you the oomph factor. Of course, black is the classic colour for parties and weddings. Other colours that you can opt for include cream, beige, peach, golds, pale green, royal blue, bright pink and red. Select a colour that you can easily carry and feel confident in. You can go for a monotone or you can mix and match. The most elegant combo is definitely black and white but you can also opt for gold and royal blue and shocking pink and beige.

Of cuts and silhouettes:

Cuts are of utmost importance. Choosing the right cut and silhouette can do wonders. To add a contemporary edge to your outfit, consider decking yourself out in asymmetrical items of clothing as they are an increasingly popular design option. Peplums and angarkhas are also quite in vogue. For those who don't know a peplum is a tutu like look that is created at the bottom of jackets and shirts or at the waist of dresses and skirts. These designs are being used by all renowned designers and are a must have item this season.

Capes and coats:

We have been witnessing it on the fashion runways for quite some time now. Yes, capes and coats are chic pieces that can do wonders for the simplest of wardrobes, transforming a casual look into an altogether high-fashion outfit in seconds. Either you go for a cape or a coat; it is perfect to add that extra finish to your look. From jamawar to organza coats and from snake cut embroidered coats to chiffon embroidered asymmetric capes; they have certainly become one of the coolest cover ups for all fashionistas.

 It's time to accessorise:

The right accessories can make you appear chic. A bit of sparkly jewellery can turn the simplest of dresses into formal attire. If your shirt is heavily embroidered go for a chunky bracelet and simple gemstone stud earrings. If you have a simpler outfit, choose classy chandelier earrings and draping necklaces which will make your outfit look more formal and elegant.

When it comes to shoes always wear heels. A classic pump is a great choice, especially for more formal occasions. Not to forget bags! A clutch or small evening bag is the way to go for most special events. Remember, if your dress is making a statement, choose a simple bag. If your look needs a boost, choose a beaded or metallic bag to jazz up your outfit.

Designer calling:

A fashion designer plays a key role in establishing a fashion statement and the fact is that an elegant designer 'jora' can boost up your confidence level and poise in any party or event. The perfect outfit can make a memorable evening out of any occasion. The good news is that recently, the coveted house of Sania Maskatiya has introduced 'Shades of Autumn'; that celebrates and explores the simplistic elements of nature. The collection is a fusion of Eastern and Western silhouettes and distinctive cuts in geometrics, interspaced with traditional angarkhas and floral embellishments. The beautiful designs are surely festive and can be worn formally on Eid, weddings and fancy dinners.

So, if there is any formal occasion coming up then you know where to head to. Happy shopping!
