The musical beef (between Ali Azmat and Umair Jaswal) which began late last month after a series of “leaked” videos surfaced online won’t end in more name-calling or videos but a musical duel of sorts. The story began when Azmat, in a series of videos, shared his distaste for Jaswal’s brand of music which led to a war of words. As the days went by, celebrities such as photographer Tapu Javeri, fashion designer Deepak Perwani and video man Saqib Malik also added their spin to the tale.
Encouraged by Red Bull to settle this feud on stage, both artists will be participating in the upcoming Red Bull Sound clash event which will be nothing like an ordinary gig (though there is nothing wrong with those).
Pitched as “a clash of generations”, this duel will follow a format that will put the abilities of both musicians under the spotlight. The clash will consist of four rounds such as ‘the cover, ‘the takeover’, ‘the clash’ and ‘the wild card’.
According to a press statement, “Red Bull Sound clash is a friendly rivalry, a musical conversation between two wildly different acts” and has successfully taken place in several territories such as Egypt, Jordon, Germany and Lebanon, among others.
Currently both artists are on heavy rotation on television, thanks to the new season of Coke Studio and therefore should attract fans from all around the city. Scheduled to take place on August 27 at the Expo Center in Karachi, the clash will see both artists compete for the affection of the audience. Our money is still on Ali Azmat.
