The peaks of Pakistan

Pakistan boasts five of the world’s 14 peaks over 8,000 meters, including the mighty K2. For those who crave adventure, there’s no place like the Karakoram and the Himalayas.

“Climbing mountains is more than just a hobby for me - it’s about defying norms and following my passion,” shares Naila Kiani, the first woman to summit an 8,000-meter peak in Pakistan. Her advice to aspiring mountaineers? “Start small with treks and build your stamina; the mountains will always be there.”

If you’re looking to dip your toes into trekking, Pakistan has plenty of options for beginners and experienced hikers alike. Start with the fairy-tale-worthy Fairy Meadows - a lush green plateau with breath-taking views of Nanga Parbat, or head to Hunza Valley, famous for its stunning scenery and the legendary hospitality of its people.

Touristy spots

Not into extreme trekking? No problem! Pakistan offers something for every kind of tourist. From the ancient ruins of Mohenjo-Daro and Taxila to the historical grandeur of Badshahi Mosque and the bustling Anarkali Bazaar in Lahore, there’s so much to explore. Love the beach? Balochistan’s Ormara Beach is perfect for a seaside escape.

And if you’re feeling a bit more mystical, Swat Valley - also known as the Switzerland of Pakistan - is a tranquil escape that offers more than just scenic beauty. With lush forests, gushing rivers, and ancient Buddhist heritage sites, it’s a spot for those who enjoy both nature and history.

An exciting destination for female travellers

For adventurers like Paras, climbing isn’t just about the physical challenge - it’s about balancing life as a mother of four and pursuing her passion. “My competitor is me and myself,” she laughs, as she recounts one of her treks to Rush Lake. As Paras continues to lead all-women treks, she’s setting the example that Pakistan is not only a safe but exciting destination for women travellers.

For those who want to experience Pakistan with a group of like-minded female travellers, ‘Travel Girls’ - led by sisters Rabia and Sadia Maqbool - offers trips to some of the country’s most breath-taking spots. “Breaking the custom that women, especially mothers, can’t travel alone is our greatest accomplishment,” says Rabia proudly.

Whether you want to hike to the basecamp of K2, ride a boat in Attabad Lake, or just immerse yourself in the food, colours, and culture of different cities, there’s no end to what Pakistan has to offer.
