SKIN MATTERS

aesthetics

Dr Samina completed her MBBS from Bolan Medical University. Her relentless pursuit of knowledge led her to acquire multiple prestigious qualifications, including FCPS (Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons) in Paediatric Medicine; PGPN (Post Graduate Program in Nutrition) from Boston, Board Certification from The American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM), Certification as a Face Reality Acne Expert (USA), Canadian certified course in Dermatology, Cosmetology and Aesthetic, Master Level Course in Procedures of Aesthetics and Dermatology, Ultra V lift Course (NEES International Inc.) and few other courses.

Dr Samina’s profound understanding of dermatological science places her at the forefront of aesthetic treatments. “I take a holistic approach, considering overall skin health and the underlying medical issues that may affect a patient’s skin condition. This allows me to provide scientifically-backed recommendations, ensuring that aesthetic enhancements don’t compromise skin health,” elucidates Dr Samina.

“My background is rooted in dermatology, where I developed a passion for helping people feel confident in their skin. Throughout my medical training, I realised the impact that aesthetic treatments could have on mental well-being and self-image, which inspired me to specialise in the field of aesthetics. We offer services such as injectables, chemical peels, laser treatments, and personalised skincare regimens, I also offer treatments that utilise natural ingredients, such as plant-based serums, and educate my clients about the balance of effective results and their personal preferences,” she informs.

While explaining the difference between a dermatologist and an aesthetician, Dr Samina tells, “While both focus on the skin, dermatologists are medical doctors that specialise in skin health and treatment. Aestheticians, also called skincare specialists, focus primarily on the appearance of the skin. They usually work in conjunction with dermatologists and perform cosmetic skin procedures.”

Talking about current trends in skin treatments, Dr Samina says, “Currently, trends suggest that many women are gravitating towards preventative treatments and non-surgical procedures that offer natural-looking results with minimal downtime. The growing interest can be attributed to the desire for convenience, quicker recovery times, and less invasive options that allow individuals to achieve their aesthetic goals without significant disruption to their daily lives.”

Dr Samina recommends young women to go for preventive treatments like hydration facials and light exfoliation in order to maintain their skin. “Facial treatments are often seen as a luxury reserved for special occasions; however, many people fail to realise that facials can be an impactful part of a regular skin care routine as well,” explains Dr Samina. “However, older women may benefit from more advanced treatments like microcurrent facials, micro needling or injectables that address signs of aging - reducing fine lines and wrinkles, erasing years from your appearance,” she adds.

What advice would you give to women who are considering aesthetic treatments but feel apprehensive about taking the first step? To this end Dr Samina utters, “I encourage them to take their time and gather information. Scheduling a consultation can help them feel more at ease as they learn about the process and discuss concerns with a qualified professional. It’s essential to prioritise their comfort and ensure they make informed decisions. Our clinic follows strict hygiene protocols, uses FDA-approved products, and adheres to best practices for every procedure.”

As far as the future of aesthetic treatments headed in terms of technology is concerned, Dr Samina anticipates more advanced technology that allows for minimally invasive procedures with quicker results and recovery times. “As clients become more informed, they will expect personalised and holistic approaches that prioritise their unique skin needs and aesthetic goals,” she expresses.

While highlighting the importance of skincare treatments, Dr Samina stresses, “In my practice, I have learned that beauty is multifaceted and that self-care goes beyond physical appearance; it’s about feeling confident in one’s skin. When a woman is confident about her looks, it also boosts her self-esteem.”

“I envision an industry where aesthetic treatments become more widely accepted as part of general wellness, leading to greater integration with medical practices. Increased regulation that prioritises patient safety and accessible educational resources for patients about their options can help demystify treatments and promote informed decision making,” she concludes.
