When and how did you decide to enter the beauty business?
Growing up, I was always shadowing my mother as she worked her magic on clients. She’s my role model and my biggest inspiration. Watching her transform faces with such passion and skill ignited a spark in me, and I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps.
How has the beauty business changed here since you began?
When I started, the trends were different, the products were fewer, and the techniques were simpler. Now, we have a plethora of innovative products and tools, not to mention the ever-evolving tricks and techniques.
What is your favourite celebrity makeup look and why?
Definitely Bella Hadid’s snatched look. It’s modern, chic, and effortlessly glamorous.
Name a drugstore and high-end product that you absolutely love.
For drugstore, I swear by Maybelline’s ‘Age Rewind’ concealer - it’s a lifesaver. As for high-end, the ‘Born This Way’ concealer is a dream.
What are your favourite makeup tools to work with?
I can’t live without my brushes and sponges. They’re the backbone of any makeup application and make such a difference in the finish and blend of the makeup.
What are your top three beauty dos and don’ts?
For the don’ts: never leave your makeup unblended, avoid using toxic bleach on your face, and don’t neglect facial hair removal.
For the dos: start with a light hand when applying makeup, prioritise good skincare, and drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.
What is your biggest challenge while doing bridal makeup?
The biggest challenge is definitely the lip colour. Brides often start with a bold choice like maroon or red, but then they change their minds and want a nude-based colour. It can be quite a hassle to make that switch without smudging the foundation or the rest of the makeup.
How would you describe your signature look?
My signature look is Hollywood-styled winged and snatched eyes. I believe the eyes are the most expressive part of the face, and I love enhancing them to make them the focal point.
How do you prep the skin before applying makeup on a client?
I start with a good moisturiser to ensure the skin is hydrated. Then, I use a primer to create a smooth canvas for the makeup. These steps are crucial for a flawless application and long-lasting wear.
If a client has tricky skin, what technique do you use when applying foundation?
It really depends on whether the client’s skin is dry or oily. I take time to understand their skin history and choose products that suit their specific needs. The goal is to enhance their natural beauty without aggravating any skin issues.
Can you suggest some tips to make makeup last longer?
Absolutely. Baking and using a matte setting spray are essential. Baking helps to set the makeup and prevent creasing, while a matte setting spray locks everything in place for all-day wear.
I have five minutes to do my makeup - what can I do that would make the most difference?
A quick flick of mascara can open up your eyes, and a bold lip colour can elevate your whole look.
What style and colours do you prefer working with when doing eye makeup?
I love working with neutral pink tones. They’re versatile and can be subtle or dramatic, depending on the look you’re going for. As for style, I favour a subtle eye with a bit of glam.
For hooded eyes, what would you suggest to make their eye makeup pop?
Using a white pencil on the waterline can really make the eyes pop. Smokey eye makeup also works well to enhance the shape and create depth.
What lip colours are in-vogue nowadays?
Mauve lip shades are definitely in trend right now. They’re sophisticated, versatile, and suit a wide range of skin tones.
What are some of the top three common mistakes women tend to make while doing their makeup?
The most common mistakes are getting the foundation shade wrong, having overly harsh eyebrows, and not blending contour lines properly. These can all detract from a natural look.
Can you suggest a proper skincare regimen for makeup enthusiasts?
Start with a thorough night-time skincare routine. Never skip sunscreen during the day, and always remove your makeup and cleanse your skin, no matter how tired you are.
What do you love most about makeup?
Makeup can enhance confidence, bring out an inner glow, and give an outer radiant appeal. It’s amazing to see how a little bit of makeup can make someone feel so much more beautiful.
What is the most important beauty advice you can give to women?
Focus on your inner health. Confidence comes from within, so take care of yourself, manage stress, and stay hydrated. When you feel good on the inside, it shows on the outside.
How do you wish to make a change in the beauty scene?
I’m really enjoying the beauty industry here, but I hope to raise more awareness about new trends and encourage people to step out of their comfort zones with their makeup routines.
Do you have any tips or advice for aspiring makeup artists?
Be patient and consistent. Success in this field doesn’t come overnight. Keep practicing, stay updated with trends, and never stop learning.
What is one cosmetic you cannot do without?
A good quality concealer is an absolute must-have for me.
When stepping out, do you wear makeup all the time?
Most of the time, yes. Especially when going out in the evening, I like to have a polished look.
When it comes to cosmetics, which brand do you usually use?
Charlotte Tilbury and NARS are my go-to brands. They never disappoint.
What’s in your beauty bag?
My beauty bag always has Rare Beauty’s lip oil, Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced, Charlotte Tilbury’s compact powder, and NARS concealer.
Your go-to lipstick?
Pillow Talk by Charlotte Tilbury. It’s the perfect nude and works for any occasion.
Your favourite local stylist or beautician?
Nabila’s, for sure.
What’s your signature perfume?
Gris Dior. It’s timeless and elegant.
What’s your favourite beauty hack?
If your mascara smudges, let it dry completely, then use an eyebrow spoolie brush to gently rub it off. Works like a charm.
Are you fond of using a lot of makeup, or do you prefer good skin with a minimal amount of makeup?
Good skin needs minimal makeup, so I definitely prefer focusing on skincare.
Where do you go for your makeup shopping?
Mostly from the US or online. I love finding new products and brands to try.
What is beauty to you?
Just one word: confidence. Confidence makes your beauty shine.
