How did you transition into modelling and acting while pursuing a career in law?
I hadn’t thought about entering showbiz initially. However, during my time studying in London, my interest in poetry and theatre caught the attention of my theatre professor and some other artists. They suggested that I consider a career in modelling or acting. While I was focused on my studies at the time, the idea started to grow on me. When I returned to Pakistan, a well-known stylist also encouraged me to explore modelling. So, two years ago, I took the leap and began my journey in this field.
Do you think it’s important for celebrities to speak up for social causes?
I think this principle applies to everyone, not just celebrities. Our country has many problems that each of us can help address. As a lawyer, I’m dedicated to taking pro bono cases, especially those involving rape victims and underage marriages. This was something I always wanted to do when I was studying criminal law.
Among modelling, acting, dancing, and law, which one holds the closest place to your heart?
My childhood dream was to study criminal law and open my own law firm, and I’m proud to say that I’ve achieved that. Later, I ventured into modelling, eventually becoming a supermodel. Now, I’ve also embraced acting. I love what I’m doing right now, however, I do plan to continue practicing law, as well.
Is there a particular actor you have in mind that you would like to work with?
I’d love to work with Saba Qamar and Mahira Khan. Outside Pakistan, I admire actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pankaj Tripathi, who have redefined the standards of acting.
What kind of roles would you like to do?
Our audiences prefer traditional themes, and that’s why most of our stories and characters revolve around them. I started my acting career with an experimental role in the film ‘Jamun Ka Darakht’ and have now shifted to more mainstream roles in TV dramas. I enjoy these conventional roles because they address real-life issues like family dynamics, women’s challenges, and more. In the future, I plan to continue with conventional roles and later explore experimental ones.
How do you practice self-care and maintain your wellbeing?
I believe in having early and clean meals. While I’m not a strict dieter, I focus on eating healthily, including lots of fruits. Additionally, I take vitamins to support women’s health, especially during menstruation, pregnancy, and times of stress. I believe, you shouldn’t care about how you look but how you carry yourself.
Do you have a workout routine?
To be honest, I don’t workout regularly. The occasional run is the closest thing to exercise for me, which I find it to be a therapeutic activity.
How do you take care of your skin?
I’m really into skincare, especially Japanese and Korean products. I prioritise skincare over makeup because I believe that a healthy canvas is essential. My routine involves a two-step cleansing process, including makeup removal and a thorough cleanse. Then, I use toner, retinol, niacinamide serum, hyaluronic acid, and finish with a good moisturiser. I also use AHA and VHA skincare products when I can’t make time for regular facials due to my busy schedule.
How do you prep your skin before makeup?
I start my day with cleansing, moisturising, and always using sunscreen. Sunscreen is essential as it helps prevent skin discoloration, pigmentation, and premature aging wrinkles caused by the sun.
Which type of makeup look do you go for?
When it comes to my personal makeup, I like to keep it light and comfortable. I steer clear of heavy foundation and use concealer as needed. I emphasise mascara and choose lip colours that go well with the look. Luckily, I have long natural lashes, so I don’t need fake eyelashes. The key is to feel relaxed and comfortable in my makeup.
Is there a particular brand that you prefer above others?
For makeup, I mostly prefer Charlotte Tilbury or Dior, and M.A.C for lips. As far as hair is concerned, I have silky straight hair, so I use this Korean brand called OI.
Favourite makeup artist:
There are a lot of names from Nabila’s; Zeeshan, Ovais, Arshad, Qasim, Fatima Nasir, and Saima. Besides them, Babar Zaheer is very good.
What are the essential items that you always keep in your makeup bag?
My cologne, mascara and a lip balm.
Favourite cosmetic product:
My go-to is the ‘lip glow’ by Dior. I prefer it because it’s a colourless and transparent lip balm, and I can’t stand having chapped lips.
What’s the one thing you never forget to do before leaving home?
Every morning, I make sure my skincare routine from the previous night has worked well. Before heading out, I take a look in the mirror to make sure that I am feeling confident.
