The increasing number of women entrepreneurs in launching and expanding their businesses has been nothing but good for the societies and economies. Yet, women continue to face numerous challenges, from legal hurdles to lack of childcare infrastructure, from entrenched societal norms and barriers to accessing finance to discriminatory employer policies. This means providing more opportunities and platforms for women entrepreneurs to grow their business.

To make the most of women’s economic empowerment, Khaadi, a leading Pakistani retail fashion and lifestyle brand has launched ‘Kreate Your Mark’ to celebrate women entrepreneurs. According to the brand, the initiative embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of its founder, Shamoon Sultan, who wants to celebrate entrepreneurs who are authentic and passionate in their purpose. In this regard, a new artist is featured every month by Khaadi, and one such entrepreneur who was featured recently, is Mehnaz Nadeem, the owner of an accessory brand called ‘SITAREY’ which she described as, “Every woman’s favourite accessory, the perfect fashionable and elegant clutch.”

Each clutch is unique and sings its own individual song. Each one has been exquisitely and elaborately handcrafted by female artisans of Pakistan. The artisans strive to make the most fashionable, elegant and modern clutches for women in Pakistan and around the world.

She uses exquisite fashion and elegant designs that are handcrafted by the artisans to the world as a source of social impact and simultaneously empowering women. Their handbags and clutches are meant for all purposes, may it be evening dresses, wedding season, festive holidays or even daily wear to your local chai/coffee spot.

“Across Pakistan, women represent a greatly underutilised source of growth. In fact, we have amongst the world’s lowest rates of female labour force participation,” elucidated Mehnaz.

The brand works with female artisans across Pakistan by providing livelihood in the safety of their homes. Each clutch is handcrafted by the female artisans and there is no use of machinery involved in any part of the design and manufacturing process, according to their website. Every purchase adds to the economic and personal empowerment of these women. We are fortunate to live in an era that is becoming increasingly more dedicated to empowering the women around us - and at Sitarey, the endeavour is to continue this journey and eventually give the un-sung talented women access to international customers - to reach for the skies from where they can shine across the world.
