TIPS ‘N’ TRICKS
To help you kickstart your reading habit, here are a few tips on how to select a book to read.
Read the blurb of the book
Blurb is just a description or synopsis of the book. On the paperbacks, you will find it on the back cover, but in the hardcover, the blurb is on the folding of the bookcase. If the blurb catches your interest, chances are you will read the book.
Start small and probe the genre
Beginners should start with a lightweight book because thick books can be daunting to the uninitiated. There is a variety of genres in the books: there are biographies, teen fiction, fantasy, young adult books, etc. Find the genre that you like. If you need a change in your reading pattern, choose from another genre.
Mode of reading
Nowadays, books are releasing in three modes. They are paperbacks, hardcovers, and ebooks. Choose the type of mode with which you are comfortable.
Check the reviews
Another way of selecting a book is reading the book reviews. Sometimes they contain spoilers, so be on the alert for them. Otherwise, you can check for the stars or ratings given by the readers for the books.
Books in a simple tone
If you want to read a classic desperately, check for the title in other versions like a graphic novel, children’s literature, etc. Mostly classics and other popular titles have been publishing in either children’s literature with many pictures or graphic novels. This version makes the reading simple and also makes the reader happy. Once you gain the confidence to read the classic version, you can always go for it.
Select a book by its cover
‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ is the age-old saying but, nowadays, covers usually give a good idea about the book as a lot of thought goes into the art work for the cover page. Eventually, it depends on your luck whether you like the book and read it or not.
Language doesn’t matter!
You don’t have to choose only English books. Select books in the language you are comfortable in. Many books are getting published in many languages, so you can go for translations, too.
Happy Reading!
