Dear Ed,

I have been reading Us for many years, and one of the sections that I used to enjoy reading a lot was ‘Ground Reality’. I don’t know why it has been discontinued. I was expecting articles on tennis and cricket, but nothing at all. I would like to point out that sports is close to the hearts of young people my age, and denying it a place in a youth magazine is not fair. Also, Ramazan is coming and this time please give us some real recipes. Most of the recipes published in Us are for the beginners, and are too easy. But cooking is a therapeutic activity and you would be surprised to know how popular it is among boys my age. I am 18 years old and I cook better than my sister. So, I am looking forward to reading some amazing stuff in Ramazan.

Hi Editor,

I read ‘What’s in the (nick) name!’ by Dr Khwaja Ali Shahid (March 11 issue). It was a topic that I could really relate to, because abusive and weird nicks are common in my family. I am ‘Kalu’, although my complexion is fair! My name is Khalid, which is actually not difficult to pronounce but was a mouthful for some visitor’s four-year-old son who called me ‘Kali’ which somehow became ‘Kalu’. Believe me, it is very embarrassing for me even though I am fair. So I hope people think it through before giving bad or stupid nicks to their children. Somehow, bad stuff is not easy to get rid of.

Reflection

Narrated ‘Aisha (R.A), the mother of the faithful believers:

One night Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) offered the prayer in the Mosque and the people followed him. The next night he also offered the prayer and too many people gathered. On the third and the fourth nights more people gathered, but Allah’s Apostle did not come out to them. In the morning he said, “I saw what you were doing and nothing but the fear that it (i.e. the prayer) might be enjoined on you, stopped me from coming to you.” And that happened in the month of Ramadan.
