BITS’N’ PIECES

A 555.55-carat rare gem, unveiled by auction house Sotheby’s Dubai, is believed to have come from outer space – either created from a meteoric impact or from a “diamond-bearing” asteroid that collided with Earth.

Dubbed “The Enigma” by the auction house, a natural faceted black diamond of this size is an “extremely rare occurrence,” according to Sotheby’s. It is expected to sell for as much as £5 million ($6.8 million) when it goes under the hammer in February in London.

Dancing on the melting iceberg

A humongous ‘ice berg’ was suspended over Sydney Harbour for this daring performance art.

A 2.7 tonne, intricately sculpted block of ice is hoisted 20 metres above Sydney Harbour from the foot of the Opera House in this epic performance art piece. From renowned local company Legs on the Wall, Thaw returns to Sydney Festival with poignant timing.

On this precarious iceberg, a lone woman scrambles to protect it from the elements and the industrial crane that seems to toy with them both. Part art installation, part performance art, and part slow-drip suspense thriller, Thaw delivers a climate change message you won’t soon forget.

Arthur is coming to an end

The final four episodes of Arthur are set to air in the US next month as part of a marathon for its 25th anniversary, with a press release explaining the final scenes will ‘culminate in a much-anticipated ending that gives a glimpse into what’s in store for the future of these beloved characters.

It won’t all be about getting jobs and paying bills, though, as in true Arthur fashion the episodes will see the aardvark and his pals ‘solve a mystery, see a silent movie, find out what it’s like to be a reporter, learn how to help a grieving friend, go on a family vacation and get a hint of their futures from a mysterious fortune-telling game.

Having premiered in October 1996, Arthur is the longest-running animated children’s programme in the US and the second-longest-running animated series behind The Simpsons.
