A road trip in the sweltering heat isn’t any Pakistani’s idea of fun but when it comes packaged as one of several summer film releases, it should find many takers. Rom-com Karachi Se Lahore is set for a July 31, 2015 release, which is when we’ll be able to watch the age-old ‘ye shaadi nahi ho sakti’ trope play out as an extended jaunt of five friends who travel from Karachi to Lahore in a baby blue Volkswagen to prevent a wedding from taking place. The film is peppered with hilarious moments throughout the aforementioned journey in which the friends discover Pakistan and their selves.
The buzz about the film went up several notches since the release of a short teaser of a dance number featuring Ayesha Omar. Although film posters show her in a completely deglamourised avatar, the teaser shows her sexy side as she shows off her wasp waist in a lehenga choli while shaking it to a desi song. It turns out that Ayesha has also sung this song called ‘Tutti Frutti’.
Karachi Se Lahore’s music has been a collaboration between Shiraz Uppal and the Noori brothers, Ali Noor and Ali Hamza. The film has been directed and produced by Wajahat Rauf, and will star Javed Sheikh, Shahzad Sheikh, Ayesha Omar, Yasir Hussain (of Aangan Terha fame, who also wrote the film), Ahmed Ali (of Made For Stage Productions’ Grease fame), Eshita Syed, Rashid Naz, Aashir Wajahat and Mantaha Maqsood. It does sound like a fun ride!
I am high on ‘Jeena, Jeena’: Atif Aslam
Atif Aslam recently resurfaced in Bollywood with his Badlapur track ‘Jeena Jeena’ and it’s been a huge hit. It’s got people wondering what he next has up his sleeve, especially since news of a new music video featuring Tiger Shroff has also been circulating. But the singer is keeping mum about this new venture until it’s ready for release.
Instead, in a recent interview with Asian Age, he very fondly spoke about Bollywood and India. “India has given me a lot of love. I don’t feel like an alien when I am here,” he quips. Ask him about the recent remarks made by singer Kunal Ganjawala, who believes that Pakistani singers should be banned in Bollywood, he says, “Even if I am banned in Hindustan, my fans will still love me and vice versa. My style and versatility is in demand and it should not harm the friendship between the artistes.”
The singer admits he is also open to movie offers only if the script is exciting enough. “A good script with a socially relevant message is always welcome. I have done Bol in the past because I felt strongly about the film and the subject it portrayed. Till then I am happy riding high on my song ‘Jeena Jeena’ which is a huge hit,” he says.
