Her father is Scottish; mother is a Uganda-born Gujarati Indian.
Started writing songs when she was 14, and made her (commercially unreleased) first album, titled 14, at the same age, financed by a loan from her parents.
Started posting her songs on MySpace in 2008 which caught the attention of a promoter and got her the chance to perform at a gig. Went by the stage name Charli XCX which was her MSN Messenger display name when she was younger.
Started a fine art degree at UCL's Slade School of Fine Art but dropped out in her second year.
Released her debut studio album, True Romance, in 2013, before gaining mainstream recognition the following year with the release of her sophomore record Sucker (2014).
Her third album, Charli, is set to be released in September this year.
