Rangreza, an upcoming Pakistani film that is described by its creators as a musical-romance and stars actors Bilal Ashraf, Urwa Hocane and Gohar Rasheed, has been making news since it was announced. While the teaser of the film was released many moons ago and didn’t really reveal any concrete information, the first song from the soundtrack has been unveiled.
Directed by Aamir Mohiuddin and slated to release this December, the film promised to do good by music when it was announced that the soundtrack would include the likes of Qurram Hussain (one half of music group Josh) and Hamza Akram Qawwal. But that comes later. Right now, all eyes or rather all ears are on the newly released single, ‘Phool Khil Jaayein’ that is sung by Abida Parveen and Asrar Shah. With music composed by one Jay Ali and lyrics penned by Shah, it’s a decent effort that rides on the coattails of its strong vocalists, particularly Parveen. Running a little over five minutes, the musical treatment is not as typical as you’d expect from a Pakistani film score, and there’s definitely some experimentation happening on the sonic front. Make no mistake, this song is unlike the mammoth hit, ‘Shakar Wandaan’ and that’s a good thing. Find it online and give it a hear.
