Dear Editor,

I read with interest the cover story ‘Walking: the ultimate low-risk, high-reward exercise’ by Ayesha Pervez in today’s (8 November) Us. It felt like a much-needed reminder, as most people I know, including myself, lead sedentary lifestyles and spend most of our free time on gaming and social media. I’m about to get married and recently joined a gym to lose weight. My coach advised me to reduce my screen time and replace it with useful activities like walking or cycling, along with eating healthy. I think Us should feature such pieces regularly - it might just inspire some readers! Also, ‘Of ghosts and monsters’ was a fun read. Keep up the good work, Us!

Hi Ed,

I enjoyed all the poems in this week’s (8 November) ‘Poets’ Corner,’ with my favourite being ‘An ominous night’ by Amna Ameer. I’ve been following her poetry for some time and find her exceptionally talented. I’m also missing Ali Asghar Ghani’s “dark” poems and hope to see his work featured in the magazine again soon.

Rising textbook prices

Dear Editor,

Rising textbook prices have become a pressing issue, as highlighted by my recent, shocking experience purchasing books for the new academic year. Over the years, textbook costs have skyrocketed, with science and mathematics books seeing the steepest increases, causing disappointment and hardship among students. This trend has far-reaching implications and could potentially contribute to rising illiteracy in Pakistan. The impact on education is both direct and devastating. I urgently request that higher authorities address this critical issue, ensuring affordable access to educational materials for all students and thereby safeguarding the country's educational foundation and future.

An alarming issue

Dear Editor,

I am a university student in my third semester. My university is very far from my home, so along with five other university fellows, we arranged a van service for our commute. Recently, our van was stopped by gunmen at a signal, and we were forced to hand over our cellphones and the little cash we had. Although a traffic constable was nearby and witnessed the incident, he looked the other way. I urge the authorities to install CCTV cameras at all signals and take action to prevent such incidents.
