Dear Editor,

The joys of travelling by Mariam Ejaz (2 August issue) got me thinking about how difficult it is to enjoy it. It has become way too expensive for people with limited budgets. Domestic flight fares are very high and trains, even the best of them, are hardly ever on time. I had heard that the facilities on motorway are good but when I travelled by car from Karachi to Lahore, the road from Hyderabad to Sukkhur was very bad and the restrooms were horrible. Once we entered Punjab, the motorway and the restrooms became excellent. Our country is beautiful, Ed, and I hope our government can develop infrastructure to facilitate travelers who cannot afford expensive airfares.

Hi Ed,

In the issue of 2 August, The inimitable Sikander Khan By Asif Khan, in ‘Us Talk’ section was interesting, but I would like the interviews of our celebrities to be more detailed. The questions are worded in a way that makes it impossible for the celebrity to give candid or detailed answers. The rise of influencer fashion by Wareesha Farooqui, in the same issue, is a testament to the fact that social media has taken over all aspects of our lives, and young people cannot escape its influence. I can only hope that good sense prevails and that youngsters stop following influencers mindlessly when it comes to gadgets, clothes, bikes, etc.

Dear Editor,

Pakistan’s hockey team won a bronze medal in Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Thirty-two years later, Arshad Nadeem won gold for Pakistan at Olympics. Through Us I would like to congratulate our national hero and to all Us readers on this achievement. Ed, only seven athletes represented Pakistan at the Olympics, which is very sad. I think our government should start a talent hunt campaign at the school level to ensure that we can have world-class athletes in the future.
