* Born on 17 May 1961 in Dore, Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland.
* Is the sixth of nine children.
* Comes from a family of musicians.
* Joined her family’s Celtic folk band Clannad in 1980.
* Chose to leave the band with their manager Nicky Ryan and administrator (and Ryan’s future wife) Roma Shane in 1982, with the trio subsequently forming a musical and business partnership.
