Dear Editor,
Not many people are bothered about the plight of animals in our dear homeland, and, on some level, I understand this attitude: when human life is of no value here, why worry about imported food for animals, right? But life is valuable and priceless for all living things, and it is cruel to begrudge animals what they need by imposing unreasonable duties and taxes. I would like to praise Giving voice to the voiceless by Lubna Jaffar Misumi, published in Us (15 September issue). The government can impose tax on luxury items but food is a basic need. I hope some policy maker realizes it. Good job, Us.

Dear Editor,
Bits ‘n’ pieces is a very interesting segment. Information that is fascinating, and in small dozes is always welcome. I loved the bit about the invention of microwave ovens. Also, Ed, I think vocabulary should be a regular part of this section. I also like Poets’ Corner, and am a big fan of Amna Ameer. Her poems are simple, easy to understand, and beautifully composed. I also like Ali Asghar Ghani and his ‘black’ poems.

Hello Team Us,
I loved the cover story Unleashing style: self-expression dominates fashion in 2023 by Tooba Ghani. It was a light, fun read. In the Poets’ Corner, I enjoyed the poem but I was happy to see my favourite poem of Yeats, ‘When you are old’ in the ‘Poems forever’ segment.
Ed, I also love the recipes you publish, as most of them are easy to make. However, it is difficult when baking is involved, so please try to select the recipes that don’t require an oven. No cook recipes are always welcome.
