An acrostic poem has several variations, but the main idea is that one or two letters of every line combined spell out a word. The first letters of each line spell out a word if read vertically downwards, and the first letter of each line and the last letter make a word. Enjoy the acrostic poem Paranoid by Centfie.
Precaution. Peering pessimistically through window
Afraid, fearful – what’s hatching in the shadow?
Reflex reaction. I reach for a panga for protection.
Approaching door silently and with caution
Needlessly nervous, turning knob like a robber
Overhead my protector trembles, waits to clobber
I hit with hate the head of an enemy in absentia
Discovering again that it is just paranoia!

And all of a sudden, my heart stopped pounding
The twinkling stars lost their gleam
The rain lost its din
The clouds started to diminish
The trees shed their leaves
The daffodils lost their charm
The arteries contracted
The pupils dilated
The wind stopped blowing
As I dropped on my knees
Closing her questioning eyes
My hands shivered
As I carried her in my arms
My legs trembled
As I lowered her in the grave
And she left, without giving me a kiss
Without telling me how to survive
Oh, come back mom! Just come back.
By Mahnoor Raza
The moment I stepped into battlefield
I realized I was no longer protected
Behind my mother’s shield
My legs felt numb, and heart started racing
For a moment, I was petrified
A flashback of memories passed before my eyes
My innocent childhood days
My beautiful youthful craze
O, my sweet mom! I can still recall my joyous days
How you used to make send me to school
My tiffin always in my satchel
Yet I ate junk canteen bagel
The gleam in your eyes when I grabbed medals
The pain you felt whenever I got injured
O my mom! You’re still beside me
For I can feel your warmth that brings glee
Then I grew up to a handsome young man
I found my love
Charming like a dove
I was blessed with two sweet kids
But all these attachments
Tried to stop me from going to fight
Then I gazed over
And saw the helpless beings enslaved
Waiting for me to fight for their freedom
For I was their only beacon
I recalled my mom’s last words
Do or die
O my son! You are here to glorify
A wave of zest passed through my body
I wiped off my tears
And spurned my fears
I got ready for battle
And the enemy was vanquished
Yet the battle didn’t end
The bullets pierced through my flesh
And my lifeblood oozed out
But my wounds didn’t hurt
For my army conquered
Last breath escaped my body
O my mom! I stopped being a kid
The day you asked me not to quit
I owed a responsibility
To my soldier khakis
