Elton John’s farewell tour brings in big money

NEWSFLASH

The British singer-songwriter hits 250 shows of his final tour, with about 50 more to go. Farewell Yellow Brick Road has grossed $661.3 million and sold 4.5 million tickets for 250 shows held across the globe.

According to the figures reported, it was listed as his final three-year-long global trip but it was put on pause for two years due to the pandemic. Elton’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is third in the history to pass the $600 million threshold. U2 was on the second number with 360 tours and a total of $730.64 million; and the reigning champion, Ed Sheeren made $776.4 million from his Divide Tour. So now, there is only 150 million dollars between Elton and Ed Sheeran. Elton has the chance to hit that number one spot.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour is scheduled to close at Stockholm on July 8, 2023.

Taylor Swift’s latest album, Midnights broke the Spotify record for most-streamed album in a single day.

The music streaming giant announced online that the album had amassed the most streams in a single day in the platform’s history.

Swift has once again written the majority of the album with Jack Antonoff, lead singer of rock band Bleachers. It sees her turn away from the intimate indie songwriting of her two last albums, Folklore and Evermore, in favour of electronica, synth-pop and even hip hop-influenced beats.

She describes her album as: “Midnights is a collage of intensity, highs and lows and ebbs and flows. Life can be dark, starry, cloudy, terrifying, electrifying, hot, cold, romantic or lonely. Just like Midnights.”
