If box office figures are to be believed, the much-hyped new film Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane and Telugu actor Harshvardhan Rane, is performing well on the box office in, and only, Pakistan.
According to Sabina Islam, Marketing Manager at IMGC Global Entertainment, the film minted over PKR 1 crore in Pakistan on its opening weekend.
“The film is doing better business in Pakistan than in India. Mawra’s acting is getting appreciated; she is the youngest actor to have taken such a big step,” Sabina told Instep.
On the other hand, according to International Business Times, Sanam Teri Kasam had an average advance booking and received a terrible response (in India) on its opening day.
Several reports in Indian media suggest that the film is on its way to becoming a box office disaster. It collected Rs 1.25 crores on its first day and less than Rs 5 crores on the opening weekend in India.
Sanam Teri Kasam also failed to surpass Akshay Kumar’s patriot act in Airlift. Mix this with the fact that Sunny Deol has also returned after years with a sequel to his all-time hit, Ghayal, STK simply has no chance.
Though Mawra and Harshvardhan look good together, the film doesn’t look like it has much to offer. Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, STK (on the basis of its theatrical trailers and songs) looks like a B-grade romantic Bollywood film, full of done-to-death, over-the-top emotional turmoil with no credibility whatsoever.
