After starring in Kill Dil opposite Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra and Govinda, circa 2014, Ali Zafar has been mostly quiet about future film projects across the fickle world of Hindi cinema…until now. After making waves on the music circuit, first with Coke Studio and then with multiple live shows across Pakistan, Zafar is returning to his Bollywood roots.

It has been recently confirmed that Rockstar Romeo Ali Zafar will star opposite Alia Bhatt (who needs no introduction post-Highway) in a film to be directed by Gauri Shinde. The untitled project is a Dharma/Red Chilli Production.

Shinde of course is the low-key director of the brilliant 2012 film, English Vinglish which featured Sri Devi in the lead role.

Anyway back to the news, reports suggest that Gauri Shinde’s Alia Bhatt venture is already on floors and will also feature Shah Rukh Khan while Karan Johar will co-produce the film. If reports in Indian media are to be believed, though Shah Rukh Khan is signed onto star in this untitled project, his role will be an extended cameo.

Discussing his role in Shinde’s upcoming film, Khan is quoted as saying: “I Iike working with women, so I am doing Gauri Shinde’s film with Alia Bhatt as my co-star. That is not a typical love story or a hero role but I find Gauri’s filmmaking interesting. I may have a lesser part to be not in terms of timing on screen but as a lover but it’s an interesting role.“

We’re betting Ali Zafar will star in this particular film since Zafar first hinted at the possibility of a potential Bollywood project to Instep at the Lahore premiere of Asim Reza’s Ho Mann Jahan.

Incidentally, Fawad Khan’s next, Kapoor & Sons also features Alia Bhatt and is also produced by Karan Johar. If Ali is indeed starring in the same Shinde film as SRK, this maybe the Ali Zafar Bollywood project we’ve been waiting for. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this one.

And in the meantime, you can also look forward to Zafar’s performance at the opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League in Dubai, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
