“The poster competition for Maalik is not a publicity stunt; we are going to consider the entries and select the designer for the film’s official poster out of it,” Ashir Azeem, director of the film, told Instep in a quick conversation.

“The poster competition for Maalik is not a publicity stunt; we are going to consider the entries and select the designer for the film’s official poster out of it,” Ashir Azeem, director of the film, told Instep in a quick conversation.

As the makers of Maalik announced the poster competition earlier this month, most people thought this is yet another publicity stunt to promote the film similar to the one regarding the selection of the cast.

This is not the case though as Ashir Azeem says that they did select a few people out of the entries they received. “In fact, there are 12-13 people in the film who are absolutely newcomers and some of them have done really well. Also, it’s not that we are taking advantage of them as they are new; we have paid them as per the market value,” he assured.

As for the poster competition, which is open to both young and experienced graphic designers, Ashir says, “we are going to choose top five posters through which we will select the designer, and not the poster, who will be designing the film’s official poster then.”

Ashir shares that since the day they have started working on Maalik, their aim is to involve the public and make way for new people in the industry. He believes there is no clear cut career path available for those who aspire to become part of the acting profession.

By announcing such competitions, team Maalik is giving newcomers a chance to showcase their talent and come to the forefront. One can only wait to see who wins the competition and how the official poster turns out to be.

Starring Ashir Azeem, Farhan Ali Agha and Hassan Niazi among others and based on the theme of taking ownership of things going on in one’s surrounding, Maalik is all set for its release on April 8, this year.
