Fans of popular ’90s sitcom Friends can rejoice as the legendary cast is expected to reunite after 12 years for a two-hour special, confirmed NBC this Wednesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California.
Friends gang was last seen together on TV in 2004 when this 10-year run ended.
All six cast members that include Jennifer Aniston, Courtenay Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer are likely to return to TV for a tribute special to director James Burrows on NBC. The episode will be aired on Sunday, February 21.
This is being done to honour sitcom director James Burrows’ recent milestone of directing his 1000th episode for the upcoming NBC sitcom titled, Crowded.
NBC chief Robert Greenblatt affirms that this might be difficult due to the actors’ busy schedules. “I’m hoping all six will be in the same room at the same time. I’m not sure we can logistically pull it off.”
He also said that Friends’ fans have been waiting for a reunion all these years but cast members have remained vague on whether it will ever happen.
Kudrow, who played Phoebe, expressed his interest in “seeing what those people are doing 10 years later as parents that have to be responsible” before adding that it would “be so different that it wouldn’t be Friends anymore”.
Perry has said he would “go back to 2004” if only he had a time machine but Aniston has insisted that “it ended at the right time when people still wanted more”.
As the excitement is on a high, we are counting down the days to see them reappear together for this special episode.
