It seems like audiences and die-hard fans of the franchise will find their stars on the island. Rumor has it that Universal studios production is the first Hollywood venture to be shot in the exotic place. If reports are to be believed, F. Gary Gray, the director of this installment, eighth to be exact, took a trip to the area and, upon his return, convinced the studios to “seek approval” from the respective governments for shooting there.

As for shooting in Cuba, American Film Producer Bob Yari says, “It has a unique beauty to it. You’re in a very unique setting which is really hard to duplicate anywhere else. People have tried in places like the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, but Cuba has such unique features like the Morro Castle and the Malecon. It’s a beautiful location.”

While that decision is still in the pipeline, it appears that the filmmaker has lost no time to have Vin Diesel, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Kurt Russell, Ludacris, and Jason Statham on board with him.

The film is set to release on April 14, 2017, in North America.
