According to the Indian Express, actor Kunal Kapoor of Rang De Basanti fame is all set to bring his widely-appreciated play Ek Punjabi Yeh Bhi to Pakistan. The play, which is inspired by Ali Akbar Natiq’s Urdu short stories, was showcased at the Prithvi Theatre Festival in Mumbai, earlier this month and became a popular choice among theatre enthusiasts. Following the acclaim, the production is set to travel across the US, Canada and even Pakistan by April next year.
“We put a lot of passion and hard work into this, and I’m really happy with how people have reacted to it. We have had number of offers to tour other cities and countries and I am really looking forward to that,” Kunal said in a statement.
While there is no information as to where the play will be staged on this end of the border, it adds to the recent exchange of performance art between the two countries. Last year saw more than a handful of Indian productions hit the stage in Pakistan including Om Puri and Divya Dutta-starrer Teri Amrita and the theatrical adaptation of Mahesh Bhatt’s Daddy. It seems things will only get better come 2016.
