And while we’re on the subject of cinema, and Shaan Shahid (who recently celebrated 25 years in Pakistani cinema), we can now report that the director-actor has started shooting for the film, Arth 2 in Lahore. The film, according to reports, is a remake of the Hindi film, Arth by Mahesh Bhatt. The Pakistani version is being directed by Shaan who also stars in the film alongside Humaima Malick, Humayun Saeed and several others. According to PR reports, the film’s shoot was marked by a celebratory clapper take from Shaan’s mother, Neelo. With music produced by Sahir Ali Bagga and a high-profile cast, Arth 2 will serve as a much-needed change of pace for Shaan whose appearance in war on terror-inspired films is wearing a bit thin.
It’s ironic that the famous movie star is remaking an Indian film given his inexhaustible hyper nationalism, and severe disdain for those who work across the border from Pakistan. All this became obvious when the Shiv Sena issued threats against Pakistani artists recently and Shaan reacted to the issue by saying: “Where are all the Pro Indian supporters? Can’t seem to find them on social media to comment on the ongoing Indian Shiv Sena attacks on Pakistan’s talent. From Ghulam Ali to Mekaal Hasan band, from the book launch of Kasuri to the attack on our cricket representatives. Now you will know why there are Borders and now you will see them clearly.”
Moving on from India, we can also add that work on Shaan’s other upcoming film, Yalghaar, seems to be in full swing as the actor recently shared a picture (featuring himself and Bilal Ashraf in military gear) on his social media with the words, “Yalghaar on the way”.
