CINE WATCH
A weekend of sequels
This Friday both Hollywood and Bollywood will churn up sequels to earlier hits. B-town puts together yet another ensemble cast for the sequel to the 2007, Akshay and Katrina starrer Welcome titled Welcome Back. The film that was initially hyped to star Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha together after years, now stars John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and the usual suspects – Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor and Paresh Rawal. The film will also mark the return of actor Shiney Ahuja, who had been serving a prison sentence on rape charges. The original was packed with tones of rib-tickling humour, stylized action and larger than life characters. It remains to seen if the sequel matches up to the precedence set. Watch it for yourself in cinemas all over the country this weekend.
Hollywood goes all the way back to 2002 to bring us the beginning of another Transporter trilogy. The first in the series is Transporter Refueled. Ed Skrein of Game of Thrones fame replaces Jason Statham to take on the driver’s seat in this energy-fuelled, machismo-packed crime caper. While Variety defines it as ‘one of the most enjoyable bad movies of the year’, we’ll leave it to you to decide if its action that you’ll enjoy or the absurdity of it.
FASHION
Time for another Eid spree
Designers Farah Talib Aziz and Sobia Nazir are the first ones to cash in on the Eidul Azha fervour with their Eid-appropriate collection. The former has taken the lawn route collaborating with Lakhany Silk Mills and has another collection of sugar-coated floral prints and virtual gardens in store for us with hints of chikan kari in calming, summer hues. Sobia Nazir, on the other hand, adds a more formal touch to Eid fashion with embroidered chiffons and silks as well as cotton nets paired with embroidered silk pants. Both collections can be bought online and the catalogues have been uploaded on their respective Facebook pages.
