It’s Pakistan galore these days with Salman Khan’s upcoming film, Bajrangi Bhaijaan. While last week it was Atif Aslam who made news for singing ‘Tu Chahiye’ for the upcoming film, now it is Adnan Sami Khan with a rendition of the renowned qawwali ‘Bhar Do Jholi Meri’.
The Pakistani singer/actor’s addition to the film was recently announced by Bollywood’s Bhai himself through social media when he posted a still from the song. Previously Khan had just posted some tweets which did not disseminate who the singer was. One of his tweets said, “My favorite song coming soon in... voice” while the other one wanted his fans to guess whose voice the song would be in.
The qawwali which was originally sung and made famous by the Sabri Brothers, is reportedly a soulful number which is already being called the ‘best song’ from the film and according to sources, it is Salman Khan’s favourite song of the soundtrack. Reports suggest Adnan Sami Khan will also be making an appearance in the song.
We cannot make judgments about Sami’s rendition of the song until it hits the airwaves, but we sure hope that the Pakistani powerhouse does justice to the Sabri Brothers, who have remained an inspiration for most of our music industry.
Fawad Khan walks out of Battle for Bittora?
Truly Pakistan’s most talked about import to Bollywood and perhaps India’s biggest heartthrob of the moment, Pakistani actor/singer Fawad Afzal Khan has become a force to be reckoned with in Bollywood. The actor, who debuted on the other side of the border with Khoobsurat and became an instant superstar thanks to his pairing with Sonam Kapoor, has now reportedly walked out of his upcoming film Battle for Bittora.
If speculations are anything to go by, Khan walked out of the film due to the its requirement of doing intimate scenes, which the actor had been uncomfortable with since the start of the project.
The film, which is being produced by Rhea Kapoor, is an adaptation of the novel Battle for Bittora. According to sources, the film may now have Farhan Akhtar in place of Fawad playing the lead opposite Sonam. The duo was last paired opposite each other in Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, a film that went on to become a blockbuster.
We might mourn the loss of the opportunity to see Fawad and Sonam’s sizzling onscreen chemistry once again but one has to commend Fawad for taking a stand over issues he feels strongly about, clearly telling the world that there are some boundaries this Pakistani heartthrob is not ready to cross.
Kangana Ranaut to star opposite Hugh
Grant in Rani Laxmi Bai biopic
Be it Mary Kom or Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that biopics have become Bollywood’s favourite new thing to do. According to latest reports, it is now Kanaga Ranaut who has joined the bandwagon by accepting the role of the infamous ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’, Rani Lakshmi Bai, in filmmaker Ketan Mehta’s next.
An insider reported to the Indian media, “Kangana has read about Lakshmi Bai in school. So when she was approached for the role, she was very excited. She also loved Ketan’s script, and was impressed with the kind of research that has gone into it.”
The project will be an Indo-British production, for which Kangana will undergo heavy-duty training in horse riding, sword-fighting and other warfare skills before she starts shooting. “Since it’s the first time that a project of such magnitude is being planned on Lakshmi Bai, Kangana wants to do her best,” added the source.
Apart from Ranaut, rumour mills also suggest that for the role of General Hugh Rose – who was the central commander of Central Indian Field Force in Jhansi during the rebellion –will most probably go to the English actor, Hugh Grant, as the filmmaker wants an actor who can fit the role of an English commander perfectly.
The film is expect to hit the screens next year and will be released in Hindi and English. According to the director of the film Ketan Mehta, the film will be a second part in ‘The Rising’ trilogy, which started with Mangal Pandey in 2005.
