Known for her melodic voice and a scintillating personality, ‘Malika-e-Tarannum’, Noor Jehan has been a voice that changed the very way songs were produced in the Indian Subcontinent. From her acting expertise to her social life, Noor Jehan remained a force to be reckoned with. In recent news, the late singer has been given a tribute by Indian singer Sona Mohapatra as she recreated the magic of one of her songs ‘Sanu Nehar Wale Pul Tey Bula Ke’.
The Indian singer, who is known for her songs in Bollywood such as Ambersariya which became a cult-classic last year, has lent her voice to a new, modified version composed by Sumit Sethi and Paras Sunda. The musical duo that is known for energetic live gigs and enthralling music, has revisited the song from the 1973 classic Pakistani film Dukh Sajna De.
“I simply loved the groove.” Sumit said to the IANS while explaining the reasons behind his choice of selecting this specific song from a wide list of hits from the late singer. Paras, who rewrote some portions of the song to give it a contemporary tweak, mentioned that the music composing duo chose Sona Mohapatra because of her strong vocals and voice that is akin to the late singer/actress.
Awarded her famous title of Malika-e-Tarannum because of her musical prowess and vocal articulation, Noor Jehan gave us songs like ‘Mujhse Pehli Si Mohabbat’, ‘Kuch Log Rooth Kar Bhi’, ‘Chandni Raatein’ and ‘Kala Shah Kala’ and still retains a special place in the hearts of her countless fans across the globe.

Rekha abandons Fitoor and is quickly replaced by Tabu
Veteran actress Rekha, whose beauty Bollywood swears by and whose acting prowess gave us hits like Umrao Jan and Silsila, has abandoned her upcoming film Fitoor post-shoot. The 60-year-old actress who was expected to play the role of the manipulative and vampy Miss Havisham in the Indian adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations, left the film and has been replaced by Tabu almost overnight as ‘Begum’.
While various sources close to the film have cited different reasons for the actress’s departure such as her unhappiness with the way her character turned out, the real reason according to reports by Daily News and Analysis (DNA) seems to be creative differences between Rekha and the director of the film, Abhishek Kapoor.
According to the report, an actor who’s a part of Fitoor was quoted saying, “They just couldn’t see eye-to-eye on how Rekha’s character was to be interpreted. Abhishek had one image in mind, Rekha had another. They were working at cross-purposes. Neither party was happy with the end results.”
While Tabu was last seen in the Shahid Kapoor starrer Haider in the role of Kapoor’s mother, one has to wait and see as to how effectively can the actress replace the diva-esque allure that Rekha brought to the film. Fitoor was expected to hit the screens in December of this year but has now been delayed till February 2016. The film is being produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, and stars Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur as main leads.
