Popular Pakistani TV drama Dastaan has begun airing on Zindagi TV across the border, but not before it was given an Indian makeover with a new ti
tle Waqt Ne Kiya Kia Haseen Sitam and an edited storyline that would make it palatable for Indian audiences.
Directed by Haissam Hussain and based on the novel Bano by Razia Butt, the show follows the tragic romance of fiancés Hassan (Fawad Afzal Khan) and Bano (Sanam Baloch) whose relationship becomes entangled with the politics of partition of the Indian subcontinent.
“The entire story has been told from the angle of Bano, and naturally she being a Muslim and the story revolving around the partition time, we have neutralised it for the Indian perspective. We have edited the show with a very balanced approach,” said Priyanka Datta, business head of Zindagi TV.
When asked about the change in title, Dutta added:
“We found a very lyrical justification to a very romantic and timeless journey. We found the title befitting.”
Known as one of the top-rated Pakistani television series, Dastaan was shot in Karachi, Lahore and Patiala . Currently, it is also being aired in the Middle East on MBC Bollywood.
Zayn Malik quits One Direction, just wants to be a regular 22-year-old
One Direction singer Zayn Malik, popular in this part of his world for his British-Pakistani roots, has decided to part ways with his chart-topping band.
The 22-year-old said he’d rather live a normal “22 year old boy life who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight” on his official Facebook page. Last week, Malik walked away from the band’s world tour after being overwhelmed with stress.
Malik’s departure leaves Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson to continue as a four member band who will be recording their fifth album later this year.
In an official statement, the group said:
“We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future.”
