Ayeza Khan, who received criticism and praise for her performance in the recently concluded Mere Paas Tum Ho, will be back on screens with another drama serial that aims to address stigmas and stereotypes associated with divorce. In MPTH, Ayeza bravely portrayed a woman who leaves her husband for another man, a role several actresses refused to play, and one that didn’t go down too well with viewers in Pakistan. However, Ayeza Khan maintains she has no regrets playing the part and in an interview noted that it is an actor’s job to play one role and then move to another.
In her upcoming drama serial, Meherposh, she plays the role of a woman who is divorced on the night of her wedding.
The third teaser of the drama highlights how divorced women are stereotyped and become an easy target for society’s harsh treatment. She tries to make everyone take her word but her innocence is lost on people as trust doesn’t come her way and people around her are all too willing to ostracize her and condemn her in the name of honour.
But, like every other drama serial, there is a savior or knight in shining army destined to save her. In Meherposh, that heroic character is played by Danish Taimoor, who comes to her rescue and questions peoples’ sense of morality. Let’s wait for the drama to go on-air and see how it handles the subject in question.
Directed by Mazhar Moin and produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, Meherposh is expected to hit TV screens very soon.
