The disgraced Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, whose sexual abuse of aspiring young female actors that reignited the #MeToo movement, has finally been brought to justice.
Harvey Weinstein was accused of misconduct by over 80 women since The New York Times and The New Yorker published explosive reports detailing decades of sexual harassment, assault, and rape allegations more than two years ago.
According to recent reports, a New York jury found him guilty on two counts, but acquitted him of the most serious sex crimes in his New York sexual assault trial.
“A jury of 12 men and women found former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein guilty on two of the five potential criminal charges he faced in his New York County trial,” reported The Hollywood Reporter (THR).
“Weinstein was convicted of criminal sexual assault in the first degree, based on the testimony of former Project Runway production assistant Miriam Haley, and rape in the third degree, based on the testimony of one-time aspiring actress Jessica Mann.”
The jury of seven men and five women spent five days deliberating on Weinstein’s fate after which the verdict was announced. Harvey Weinstein was remanded into custody against the protests of his lawyers, who cited his health as an issue, and is currently being held at Bellevue Hospital prison ward in Manhattan.
Weinstein is set to be sentenced on March 11, 2020. He is facing five to 25 years for the criminal sexual assault conviction and 18 months to four years for the third-degree rape conviction. Time’s Up.
