With socially relevant drama serials on a rise, many actors have been taking up projects that highlight one or another social issue. One such actor is Sonya Hussyn, who played prominent roles in drama serials Aisi Hai Tanhai (2017) and the recently concluded Ishq Zah e Naseeb that dealt with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Earlier in 2015, Sonya played the role of a mentally challenged girl, Nazo in drama serial Nazo.

Now the actress will be seen in another drama serial that tackles an important social issue. According to the presser, Sonya will play the protagonist who suffers from schizophrenia – a mental disorder which destabilizes a person’s connection with reality while its symptoms range from delusions, hallucinations, mood fluctuations and other cognitive disruptions.

The incredibly talented actress has proven her mettle time and again with powerful performances in numerous drama serials. She was also nominated for Best Actor Critic (Female) award at the recently held Pakistan International Screen Awards (PISA) 2020 for her recent performance in Ishq Zah e Naseeb.

“Hussyn chooses to embody this role and use her platform to spread awareness while de-stigmatizing this frequently misunderstood mental illness,” states the presser.

Currently in production, the upcoming drama serial will see Sonya Hussyn playing the lead opposite Zahid Ahmed, who was also her co-star in Ishq Zah E Naseeb. The two share great onscreen chemistry and, in the upcoming drama, they will be seen as a couple belonging to the lowest strata of society and madly in love.
