Siberian winds are passing through Pakistan and this is just one byproduct of not taking global warming seriously. But the cause is not lost on Lahooti Melo, an annual cause-based festival that takes place in Sindh nearly every year.

In 2020, Lahooti Melo - dedicated to poetry, arts, dance, music and culture - happening later this month on 17, 18, and 19 has as its theme #EcoNotEgo. Lahooti Melo 2019 was dedicated to an ‘ode to liberated women’ in 2019.

While speakers and panel discussions are being worked upon for the upcoming Melo, similar is the case with the arts showcased in its beautiful colours, folk soundscapes, dance that is so beautiful that it feels like poetry in motion and poetry so precious that it needs to be read out alive more than once.

The full schedule will be announced as the days get closer, admitted a person on the team of Lahooti Melo, but so far confirmed names include Ahmad Rafay Alam, an environmental lawyer and Afia Aslam, environmentalist - among some others.

As for those wondering about the arts, even as names are still being planned, confirmations include Fareed Ayaz and Abu Mohammad Qawwal and Brothers, Sanam Marvi, Kaif Ghaznavi, Salamat Sohrab, Taj Mastani, Suhaee Abro, Bhagat Bhooro Lal and Akber Khamiso Khan. We’re also hoping to see The Sketches onstage, considering their (third) new album, ‘Saanjhi’ has released with music videos for ‘Ishq Laga, Mann Jaga’ and ‘Faani Aur Baqa’.
