Surprising both fans and critics, Janoobi Khargosh, a Lahore based independent band spearheaded by Waleed Ahmed, has dropped their new album, Survivors, days before 2019 ends.

The album contains 11 songs and comes after the single ‘One’ which came accompanied with its own music video and was released in 2018.

Janoobi Khargosh sprung on the scene with 2014’s Billi Khamba Aur UranTashtari (2014) comprising 10 songs and followed it up with Cpt. Space Master EP (2017) that contained 5 tracks including ‘Super Cat’ and a single called ‘Hum Saray Computer Hain’ in 2017.

The first single off Survivors is called ‘One’ and was released in 2018 with the song a part of the 11-track album. Survivors features several collaborations including Umer ‘Duck’ Khan of Poor Rich Boy, singer-songwriter and producer Ali Suhail (who is also a member of Takatak and Sikandar Ka Mandar), Umer Ahmed (Waleed Ahmed’s younger brother) – who helps him out on synth; and finally music producer Zain Ahsan, who played guitars on certain songs.

As for the inspiration behind the album, its ethos come from the 90s music scene, back when Vital Signs were big, that music scene and era in general. “I used to listen to Vital Signs a lot as a kid; it was like my favourite band. So, I have that association with Vital Signs from childhood,” Waleed told Instep in an earlier interview.
